Would a 30-06 be a particle hunting rifle from a ground blind in the bush? A little worried about a 30 yard shot and a 06 completely destroy a doe
 
It would work just fine. Use a tougher bullet that doesn't rapidly expand and it will penetrate without too much meat damage. 30 yards to 300+ yards and you will be fine.
 
Heavy for caliber bullets would do great, 200gn, at a moderate velocity and you would eat right to the hole!
 
If your worried about it destroying a doe then don’t shoot a doe
You have a lot to learn about ballistics and correct type of bullets grasshopper
 
A 30 yard head shot of a doe will destroy very little meat. At 30 yards why would you consider anything else?

My last 30-06 deer shots were moderately loaded 180 grain round nose. It didn't really ugly them up any worse than any other non-magnum centerfire.

If you want your 32 Special back, let me know :p I'm open to it haha

I am sure that you are aware that when you can pick your shot, that a .22 Long Rifle would be perfectly adequate for a deer at 30 yards - as you get larger, more powerful cartridge, you get more leeway for when stuff goes sideways - but does not alter basic situation - when you get to pick your kill shot at 30 yards, about .22 Long Rifle or better is going to work fine. 180 grain 30-06 would have been VERY common to see in bush when I grew up - West Central Sask. I used a 308 Win with 165 grain for many years - many dozen deers - I only shot one deer with 30-06 - was with 165 grain Federal factory ammo - it was on the run, perhaps 75 yards out.

Depends where you hit it…which would be applicable to many cartridges at that range.
I’ve used 30/06 on many deer from about 20 feet (that’s a story…) to maybe 150 yards, most at maybe 75 (+/-).
I prefer 150’s, nothing fancy, whatever groups. Zeroed at 100.
Played with a few 6.5’s (CM and Swede), both worked great as well but the ‘06 seems to be my goto for some time.
 
I started loading Hornady 30 cal. 150 gr, SST low recoil bullets for the kids years ago when they started hunting.
With the light bullets, both 30-06 and 308 are more than capable for deer out to 80 yards. The only times the bullets haven't passed clean through are when they hit a shoulder, or a rib bone on the way in and another rib bone on the way out.
Many other deer and moose have been taken with the same bullets, over a full powder load, out to 400 yards. If you make a clean shot, you have no worries, and no deer hearts to eat.

If you are only shooting to 30 yards, consider using a bow and arrow.

Well, maybe a slug gun might be a better choice...
Then again maybe shooting a compound bow might be in order ?
I'm just spit balling here, but dont overthink it if your looking to buy another gun ;)
Cause the scenario you speak of is a good enough reason to buy another gun.

I have shot several deer at close range with the 06. It works as you expect it would. Poor placement and there will be lots of waste. Good placement and you will have no problems. My vote is to go for it.
