No store I contacted had a FV12. Even the big stores like Wholesale or Ellwood Epps...
So, I bought a Remington SPS "Varmint" in .223 instead for $50 less then the Savage would have cost. Trigger is VERY crisp but the pull is about 4 1/2 lbs. So if it can't be adjusted and I do go with a Timmeny or whatever, it will still be a sweet shooter.
Gonna throw my Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x40 on it and introduce it to the gophers :D :sniper:
Bought a box of 40 grainers and a box of 53 grain HP to see how the 1 in 12 twist likes them. My Ruger .204 with 1 in 12 is a lazer with 32 grain Vmax's.

I like the SPS "varmint" better then the 12FV but the 12FVSS for $699 from SIR looks much nicer and the 1:9 twist would help to stabilize the heaver loads.

Savage is unfortunately going to loose a whole lot of sales....like the whole Canadian market. Some dufus "forgot" to renew the export permit. :runaway:

p@d in edmonton has one in stock just looked at it today

Their website says they have a model 12BTVS in .223. Thats a stainless model right? Also, at $950 thats NOT what I was wanting to pay.

I paid less than that for my Ruger No 1b 223. Works well as a leftie too-it doesnt care either way. It has the 1:12 twist and so far likes 55gr stuff but I am about to start reloading and I have a whack of 223 brass (cuz its cheap!) and have gotten lots of inexpensive stuff off of the ee. Aw crap, now I will have to shoot more often. I think I should be able to go as far as 62-63gr bullets too. Time will tell. Enjoy the new rifle. Nothin wrong with a Remmie.:)

I know saying this in this manner makes me look like an idiot :)...I just want to be sure before venturing forth.
The pointer in the picture is aimed at the ONLY screw I could see on the trigger assembly. Is this the screw to adjust the trigger pull? I figure its safer to ask before hand to be sure then after when I may have been wrong. The owners manual does not show how to adjust the trigger though it advertises its 100% do-able

Right now its about 4 1/2 lbs. I want to get it to about 2 1/2 to 3 lbs.

Rick, there are 3 screws (requiring allen wrenches) altogether. I don't have mine apart right now so don't remember for sure, but aren't the other 2 directly opposite on the tang end of the assembly? It sounds the same as my trigger, XMark or whatever....the screw heads are covered with what seems to be superglue (cyanoacrylic sp?). One suggestion was to use heat, as nail polish remover (the normal solvent for superglue) doesn't seem to be working. I've been 95% too busy and 5% too pansy to take the heat to mine yet. I'd like to get mine around 1 to 1.5 lbs, similar to my accutriggers. You are dead right about it being crisp, mine is too.

I can only see the one allen screw head. Everything else looks like the end of a rivet head on a pivot point. Ah well, I'm gonna shoot it as is for now just to try it.
Mounted my 4-12x40 Bushnell Elite 3200 and the bipod mount last night.

Dem l'il doit pigs bettah watch out

Rick,

The same thing just happened to me (Savage unavailable) so I bought a Remington as well. ;)

In my case I was after one of the ultra heavy LRPV rifles (26", 1" diameter barrel, single shot in .223) and was told either "No, we don't have them in stock and they are at least 6 months out..." or "What the hell is that?", when I inquired about one.

So, I went to P&D and bought a Remington LTR in .223...and I am delighted! :D

Savage

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking Savage rifles. I have a couple & am happy as I could be with them. But if it was really important to Savage to sell rifles in Canada, read that they sold enough that it made a difference in their margin, then they would've resolved the supply issue before now. I think it's sad because, we as consumers, lose out to a decent 'out of the box' shooting rifle when the supply is spotty.

I agree, NAA.
As much as some would like to trumpet their dissatisfaction with the availability of this or that product in Canada, the truth of the matter is that we don't account for much of their sales.
They certainly didn't lose a sale, Rick65Cat... by the time they'll fix the import permit thinghy, you'll figure out that Remington belongs in EE :D:D....

Happy shooting

Ron Coburn (president of Savage Arms) appears to be a real nice fellow. But I watched a video of him hunting BC bears on Wild TV. That really got me thinking that he's got enough memory to book a BC hunt, but can't remember to renew the export permit to Canada. WTF  if you think that little about our market, then stay the #### off of our country and go hunting where your market is more lucrative.

It is not him that forgot..... but a pencil pusher.
And yes, I agree that sheeple that don't like guns have no business working in the industry..... but unfortunately many do.
Amazingly, nobody blames the State Department for not approving the permit that was submitted in 2007.
