I bought one of these 92s surplus pistols out of curiosity for the 92 as a platform in general. Mine has definitely been used, I detail stripped it and scrubbed it and oiled it but the bluing was fairly worn in places, the roll pins had been hammered out a few times, it had been dropped on its front sight before, definitely been used more than most I feel.
I slapped some new LOK grips on it and loaded it up with some 124gr ball and hit the range. I don't think I've had so much fun with a pistol before. It didn't miss a beat. It ate 250 rounds and felt great, like I had been firing it all day everyday. Just super familiar and intuitive. I think I put 2k through it that season in total before another strip, clean, oil regimen.
I was in such a rush towards the ban deadline that I wasn't able to pull together all the cash I needed to buy a 92a1 like I wanted. There were a few floating around but they were all higher-end models. I really loved the coyote Tan version that came in an ammo box. Still kicking myself for not breaking out the CC for one of those.
In the end I did end up getting a Girsan Regard in a very similar configuration. Frustratingly, it's everything I wanted it to be (and a far cry from the poorer QC on Turkish shotguns). Now I can only imagine how nice the real deal would have been.
Anyways, I'm still up a real Beretta and a solid-performing clone so I got that going for me. I think I want to slap some wood grips on the old girl and let her rage on some steel this spring.
