Reloader 15 - who is using it?

Apparently they will not be shipping any Alliant powders to Canada because they refuse to put French on their labels.
It's too bad as there are a few cartridges I use Alliant powders in, including Re-15 in the 9.3x62 and 416 Taylor.
If I had more on hand I would be tempted to also try it in my 338-06 and 250 Savage as suggested above.

Old rumor. Has been disproven numerous times. - dan

That's interesting about the requirement of French on the label. I was able to pick up several canisters of Alliant Re26 recently. Also, my Hodgdon 4831ssg has no French on the label, nor does my Norma MRP. However, my IMR 4350 has a second label (pasted over the original labelling on the canister) that has both French and English warnings and the wording "Not for resale in the USA."

I'd appreciate knowing where it has been disproven, as 3 different gun stores have told me the same thing, that they cannot get Alliant powders from their distributors due to this. (Including one owned by a personal friend)

It has been disproven by the fact that the same rumour has been going for 20 years and yet Alliant powders are still being sold.

That chart is great, until you ask who came up with the data and how they did it. Without that it’s as useful and trustworthy as a magic 8-ball. I’ll happily stand corrected if that info ever surfaces.

Just do what I did and test a few. As I posted earlier RL-15 wasn't as bad as the chart suggests but none the less temp sensitive. Another example would be Varget. The chart suggests it to be .13 ft/sec per degree F. but Gavin at Ultimate Reloader tested Varget and found it to be worst at .24 ft/sec per degree F. He also tested Ramshot Tac and found it pretty well the same as the chart .824 vs .91. It is only a chart to give you an idea of the temp sensitivity just as a burn rate chart is just an idea of the relative quickness of gun powder. Not all powders are the same from one burn rate chart to the next, but it gives you an idea of where the powder should be just as this chart gives you an idea of the temp sensitivity of some powders.

I just sold my 7mm-08.

How temp sensitive do you find it? I am a novice reloader. Don't have a ton of time in the spring and summer to develop loads. Maybe I should stick with a more temp insensitivity powder?

I found the same thing(temp sensitive) Magnum primers solves that.

This here is funny. I just bought RL16 a few weeks back, 8 lb jug, with French label. And yes it has been brought in by that supplier twice in the last 4 months, so where did they happen to get it? Sitting on stock and only making available intermittently? Somehow I doubt it.

Never tried RL15, but use RL 16 in 6.5 Cm and 7-08. They both love it.

Who is using it and what are you using it in?

I have some, unopened and never used it before. I have been checking a couple of reloading manuals and I'm not sure its be best for what cartridges I have...

6.5 Creedmoor, 130-140gr
7 Saum, 160-175gr
300 WSM, 168-200gr
338-06, 185-225 gr

Is it worth keeping and using in what I have or sell it and buy something else?

338-06 it will work fine in, not ideal but decent.
6.5CM I'd use it with 120gr bullets and lighter, again, not ideal but decent.

RL 15 was my go-to powder in the 300 Savage, and I use it a fair bit in the 303 British [1910 Ross]
I have not noted serious temp sensitivity with it, but have not tried it at temps below -15ºC. Dave.

In 308 with 168's it was as good as Varget or IMR4064, all so close in burn rate I couldn't tell any difference, used it in 223/7.5x55/30'06 Garand loads, very versatile if you aren't into overbore cartridges.
Use to be able to get it at LeBaron in Ottawa, ran several jugs until they folded shop.
