Mossberg 590 shockwave sbs

Update…they re-shipped my order via UPS courier. It left yesterday. I’ll update when I receive it (or not).

I received my order from Defender Tactical just this week, no hiccups. I have my fingers crossed for you but know that they do ship to Canada, and we do get the stuff. I recommend their Mossberg safety switch. It's a great upgrade.

How was your order shipped? UPS courier or US Postal Service?

So the build is coming along and I installed all the DT stuff that came in.
In regards to my bead, when I took out I cant see through to inside of barrel. It seems as if from factory inside the barrel the threads were filled with solder or something perhaps.

I have installed the Big dot bead and it pushed some of the material in enough so that my finger nail can catch on it.
Anyone know if this is a common occurrence?
Should I try and polish it down before shooting or just throw some slugs down range to remove?
I have never heard of Mossberg doing this before…

It's likely slug debris from rounds already fired...I say run it.

I installed the new taller bead sight and front rail from DT. I watched their video on the bead sight installation. It was very easy.

I dressed my socket with masking tape so I didn’t mark the barrel when taking off the OE sight and installing the new one. I did not encounter any crud or debris on the threads. As the video said, you may have the thread on the new sight protrude into the barrel. I snugged it down and could feel the thread on the inside of the barrel. So I followed their instruction and lightly sanded the bottom of the threads on the bead. You don’t need to take off much. I only went up and down, side to side, and in a circular motion for about 15 seconds. This was enough to remove enough material so I could no longer feel it sticking out. Then I used a tiny bit of blue loctite thread locker on the threads. Snugged it down just firmly hand tight as DT suggests.

Done…easy.

Now the front bead is above the receiver flat top. And it should bring the point of aim lower. I will report how it works.

Don't know why I never thought about this… appreciate the insight haha
That is totally what It was.

Got the it all cleaned up and re installed the bead with some fresh blue loctite.
Didn’t end up having to sand down threads as I still have about a mm before it would start to protrude with the heavy barrel.

Now just to test it out with the new bead and safety sight and hope shes bang on!

Let us know. I've also installed one of these beads on a gun that shoots high for me, but getting to the range is proving problematic for me (busy).

Mine had some of that gunk protrude in to the bore as well when I installed my sight, I just picked it out with my fingernail. Not sure what it was as I still haven't fired mine yet, but whatever it was came out easily.

Yeah came out easy for me to, I just poked it out with a pin and ran a bore snake through a few times.
Though it does seem on forward end of the threads inside barrel there is a little knick from shooting and I guess slug or shot catching up on it??
This is my first shotgun where the bead is threaded directly into barrel but I assume that is just normal wear..
Very small but my ocd goes crazy when I notice little things like that

I tried the new taller front bead sight out today for the first time. I was shooting 1oz. slugs at 100m. With the original bead, the gun was shooting about 25” high (with acquisition of the bead on the flat top of the receiver).

With the new DT taller sight, the shotgun now shoots about 6” high (again with sight acquisition on the flat top of the receiver). Big improvement!

My solution to get it closer is to acquire the bead and then lower the fore end until the bead just about disappears. Or, to just acquire the very beginning (top) of the bead and then break the trigger. Any way you do it, timing your break just as the sight breaks the top of the receiver is paramount.

I’m not trying to shoot groups here. Just trying to hit the center of the large silhouette or the 18” square steel at 100m with a slug. As I mentioned before, the taller sight helps. I guess if I wanted to have it be perfect, an elevated XS or equivalent front sight would be my choice. But because I like the look of the 590 Retrograde as original, I won’t be going that route. When I shoot slugs, I’ll remember my holds at distance.

YMMV Have fun!

Did the factory bead come out easy, did you use an adjustable wrench, did you apply heat ?
My bead arrives tomorrow hopefully and wantvto change it out

See highlighted text above. Have a look at their installation video here…

No heat, both beads (factory and high bead) come on and off easily with I believe a 5/32, 1/4 drive socket. Easy peasy.
