Suspension of Alliant Powder Orders

if every powder manufacture needed a 100 million extra pounds to solve production just who is equipped to make that and if it's not for lets say 20 years it's needed who wants to put up the money to build the extra facilities to make it.

I expect some of tje other powder manufacturers make their own nitrocellulose and won't be affected so hard as Alliant is.

Both Hodgdon and Alliant do not make their own powders go look at what Hodgdon owns now for brands. Most of Hodgdons powders are made here in Canada or down in Australia few made in the US some made in Belgium. Alliant seems like most of their powder comes from st marks down in Florida.

The problem is with an essential ingredient those places need to make their product. As I mentioned almost all the world's NC is made in Thailand, China and India. There are plenty of other places doing it but on a much, much smaller scale. Expanding that sort of operation is not easy as manufacturing large amounts of NC is extremely dangerous despite how easy it is for some to supposedly make it in their kitchen. I suspect those people haven't actually done it, even if they have it is completely irrelevant here.

Yes the real companies making the powder(Hodgdon and Alliant are just re branders) should be making their own but like everything we moved production to places where labor and lives are cheap.

................... and they wonder why people horde!

What's this hording you speak of? lol. I've never understood that concept. I'm not obligated to leave stock for anyone. Reloading components aren't food or water.

I guess I'm not the hold hands and sing kumbaya type...

I stock pile everything I use. I don't care about what others do or don't do. I got caught in 2008 with very limited supplies on hand. Reloading components, ammo ect were very scarce at the time. I told myself never again. I won't get into quantities but let's just say I am probably good for the next 5 years shooting 3-400 rounds a week.

If you lived through the Iraq war shortages, you learned. Stack it wide and deep. - dan

I still have 4lbs of R26, and 4lbs of R10x. I use the 26 in my 6.5 PRC for hunting, and the 10x in my 20Tactical for coyotes, so I am good for several years.

Not surprising considering there is a war going on in Europe & whoever is not involved is stocking up just in case!

Plus don't forget that China is the major world-wide supplier of nitrocellulose & they have apparently recently decided to mostly curtail its export.

But let's review where the powder we use is actually manufactured.

Forgot to add that Alliant is simply a jobber / wholesaler to The Kinetic Group. Radford Arsenal, where the US manufactured powders are made, is still owned by the U.S. Army who recently leased the operation to BAE Systems.

If the US Army / US Gov't. said no more civilian sales, for supply management or politicial purposes, then no more civilian sales.
If BAE Systems is told by the UK Gov't to halt civilian sales, then there will be no civilian sales.
If Alliant can make more money selling to ammunition companies, then there will be no more sales to reloaders.

Don't forget that The Kinetic Group [the re-branded Vista Outdoors] was recently bought by a Vulture capital company. Anybody remember what happened to The Freedom Group?

It's not rocket science!
