SHOT show '08 ...........MASADA (Bushmaster ACR)............NEW NEW pics

Did you notice that you switch the 556 LOWER for the 7.62x39 LOWER? That's not a conversion, that's two different rifles with a high degree of part commonality.

Since the upper is the serialized part, you could technically say that the lower is a modular add-on. But yes, to actually switch to 7.62x39 you need to change: barrel (and piston system?), bolt and lower. Which means you either need to swap your trigger from one lower to the other or have 2 complete lowers. To look at it the other way, the common parts between the two are: upper, bolt carrier and stock. The trigger pack could be considered common too, but you'd need to swap it to the other lower.

To do the same on the XCR you only need to swap the bolt and barrel, everything else is common. The trade off being that the XCR only excepts STANAG mags not AK mags.

I guess time will tell which system is an advantage: swapping the lower to use AK mags or keeping the lower and using drop-free, bolt hold open STANAG 7.62x39 mags. I wonder in the ACR could use the STANAG 7.62x39 mags in there 5.56 lower???

I hate to say it, but HKs system of magwell adapters is superior... if poorly executed.

The magpul rifle seems great, no question. Might even be the best out there right now... but perfect? No.

Correct it is the wrong thread, my oops, saw shot show and nothing else but on the plus side it makes the ACR's look dirt cheap!!! :D

Not familiar with the HK system, link?

Perhaps a 3-part receiver would be perfect: Upper, trigger group, mag-well. Which would be serialized though?!

Haven't got a link. Sorry. They've got a sort of rectangular hole, larger than a mag, and the actual magazine shaped deal with a mag release snaps in.

According to the BATFE, that mag adapter would be the firearm! They make exceptions, though. That's why Magpul adds a bracketed (serialized) every time they write "upper"

I can just see the conversation in Drake's kitchen:

Wife: "Honey, did you put the flour in the upper or lower cupboards?"

Drake "Upper serialized!"

It's central to their whole deal where a modular "lower" is a module, not the ####ing gun. It's bull####, and it's brilliant bull####.

Well I have to admit. I would really like one (I like the Swiss arms copy stock the best). The ergonomics look perfect. That being said, what is the accuracy and unfortunately I don't really see the US considering this a "sporting firearm" :(. Hopefully I'm wrong but the US seems to have taken over screwing us where our government left off.

Well, they (the US) sold a bunch of #### to our citizens, and our citizens mailed that #### to Afghanistan, and the Afghans shot that #### at US troops, so the error was ours in the form of immigration policy.

Well, they (the US) sold a bunch of s**t to our citizens, and our citizens mailed that s**t to Afghanistan, and the Afghans shot that s**t at US troops, so the error was ours in the form of immigration policy.

Wanna know where the Afghans got a lot of the weaponry they used to shoot at the invading US military? Sir, let me tell you about the Afghan-Soviet war of the 80s, when the United States covertly (and later overtly) supplied the masses of Afghanistan with over one hundred million dollars in military weaponry in the name of democracy and capitalism...

The US is only following the guidelines as laid down by the UN of the Proliferation of Small Arms Treaty that many countries have signed including Canada
