GSG-16 9 in vs 16 in

... if you want loud mag-dumps, then 9" is the only way to go!!
Just want to bump this comment - If you're not familiar with how barrel length affects noise, the 9" will be A LOT louder than the 16".

Noise doesn't matter to everyone, of course. (and possibly matters to zero new gun owners for whom the GSG-16 is their first firearm!)

...And I've been told repeatedly on CGN that changing the stock doesn't meet that bar. (Personally I'm not sure if it does or not, I haven't seen compelling evidence for either interpretation.)
The only evidence that matters is a court ruling, and I wouldn't want to be the one to collect it.

you wouldnt say a 22 is loud in any barrel length if you ever fired a 7.62x39 thru a 7" . not only is it really really loud but also get a huge the fire ball, lol.

True; try it with a flash hider/compensator... louder yet.

I know exactly what you mean, I had a shorty vz58 back in the fun days. MAN that thing was obnoxious!

But noise is relative, of course. And a 9" 22LR is a heck of a lot louder than a 16" 22LR.

Get a 10/22 and avoid the hassle of the jamming.
Mine jammed couple times last week. With BX1 mags and recently cleaned. Nothing is 100% reliable when it comes to rimfire.
Guess I lucked out. That's pretty much all I've used and it has been 99% reliable.
Mine was about 96% reliable with it. Enough to stick with just using cci with it.

That hasn't been my experience with the 10/22. My friends is anything but reliable. FTFeed is the most common issue with his, across multiple magazines.

Some people get lemons, that is true in all aspect of manufacturing. I’ve not seen a 10/22 jam in my hands.

Okayshooter

I didn’t say 100% but it’s been my experience 10/22 is far more reliable in the jam dept. the gsg is defintely fun and can be made very aesthetically pleasing. I simply posted my opinon , not a statistic lol.

other than jamming what are the other benefits? i have no experience 10/22 and everytime i look at it, i get turned off by the rotary mag, lol. yeah, i know after market mags are no better looking.

Turned off by a rotary mag? I love the rotary mags cause I can use the same mag for my 2 bolt rugers and my 10/22. Some people don’t see this useful. I do.
Aftermarket parts for every single part of the rifle is a huge selling point for me. I only have 1 10/22 but I have friends with multiples built differently. To each their own.

I saw a Derya TM-22 at Triggers and bows yesterday. $599.00. And from what I saw I was very impressed compared to GSG. These are a heck of a lot of rifle for the money. I also spoke to a couple of people who have owned them for more than a year; flawless feeding from the 10, 15 and 25 round mags. Mags are cheap, the whole rifle sells for almost what I paid for my oryx MDT Chassis without the barreled action. While I would not trade my CZ for one, I would consider owning both.

Very solid and fit and finish are quite good. Feels just like my AR did before it got locked up. Comes with a PIC rail also. I'm a bit of a fudd when it comes to rifles, while the form is tactical yet ticks all the boxes for me. Tactical and solid quality have unfortunately been very rare commodities in Rimfire.

Everyone should take a look at these before buying.

Personally, I like the 10/22 rotary magazine mostly because it fits flush to the bottom of the receiver. And they've been reliable in every 10/22 I've had over the years, they're easy to disassemble and clean, and they seem surprisingly durable. I consider the 10/22 magazine by itself to be one of Bill Ruger's best inventions.

Lots of people like the 10/22 rifle for all of the aftermarket support. That's not really my thing, but I get it. They're really easy to work on as well, right down to changing the barrel out.

I actually don't like the 10/22 platform very much, but I can't remember a time when I didn't own one. I have a great respect for the design though, and I obviously can't argue with its success over the years. But I always thought it was more due to Bill Ruger being incredibly smart and talented in designing something that can be manufactured cheaply and still work really well - Rather than the design giving us a truly excellent rifle. (sorry, getting off topic...)
