Where to find Bismuth or Tungsten Matrix?

My elk hunting plans got derailed this year so I've decided to treat myself to a trip back to Sask to shoot some geese ideally I'd like to take my Fox and my Superposed (bought the Fox six years ago and still haven't fired it) but since they're choked F/M and IM/IM I need to feed them one of the exotics rather than steel.

Does anyone know where a guy might get some 2.75" #2 (or similar) Bismuth or Tungsten-Matrix? I know that it's speedy, but either I pay some money to shoot my vintage guns, or I suck it up and shoot my modern autoloader with steel.

Thanks!

I don’t think I’d shoot tungsten out of an older tightly choked shotgun. It’s very unforgiving being much harder than steel. It is definitely superior but I would use your modern gun. Best of luck on the hunt.

Tungsten matrix is not solid tungsten, it is very close to the density of lead, and is much softer that solid tungsten. The manufacturers recommend it for use in older shotguns, as a substitute for steel.

Your correct. I was thinking of the old tungsten iron from years gone bye. Nice thing is the smaller sized pellets than can be used with the Tungsten matrix. Should pattern like a champ

Tungsten matrix will be old stock, or second hand at a gun show, I believe.
Kent apparently has not made a run of it in the last 2 years.
There's lots of discussion on Shotgunworld about it being discontinued..

Well, given the price point of Tungsten, I'm not surprised. I looked at a couple of boxes that I bought in 2006 and they were $28.99 for 10 back then!

Macdonalds sporting goods in portage la prairie has all kinds of exotic ammo like that. Expensive so every year they bring it out and pack it away again after the season. Remingtons ringmaster hd would be good too. It's a 12 g/cc shot but softer. Winchesters hi density nope. That's hard stuff. Give them a call

Be prepared to spend about $3 per bang, even if you load your own as I do for my BP handloads. My last 7 lb came from the USA without shipping cost and still cost me $235 CDN for the 7 lb bag from Ballistic Products .... that's about 80 cartridges of 1 1/4 oz.

No surprise if they discontinued it. I looked at a box that I bought in 2006 and it was $28.99 for a box of 10. And given the cost of raw Tungsten these days...

Yes and at $75/box of 25rds which retail this year for $100+ box. If you order direct from Kent you are looking at $100 US per 25 rd box this year. That's $1000US per case!! Mine is a good deal at $675 for 9 boxes!
With the exchange, it is a very good deal. Premium steel are over $50 a box with tax. I’m surprised it wasn’t gone immediately. Great for a fellow using a classic gun as well!!
