norc sks with scope, first 5 round pretty good, but the mount totally crap that become less crowded ,the next shoots get horrible. There is no any good receiver mount for SKS, at least for me.

Try shooting it with open sights and see how you do.

I bought a Choate mount that is meant to be drilled and tapped to the receiver, but now I can't bring myself to install it.

I'd rather shoot mine with iron sights and shoot it at close range. I don't want to bubba my nice pieces of milsurp history.
 
SKS and scopes are a bad combo! unless its mount to a solid part of the gun. Get a Williams rear peep sight instead, then you will see a improvement.

Aside from having to replace the rotten Chui wood stocks on my 1965's with Chinese red fiberglass; mine are staying in original condition.

If I want to hunt with an SKS, or use it for a bush gun, I'll buy one with a stamped trigger-guard and a pinned barrel.

The only modification I'd make would be to drop it in a Choate stock (I'd still leave off the scope.)
 
I can ding the gong at 200 yards fiarly regularly using the open sights in my SKS at Poco. The SKS is not a target rifle...and for a $175 gun, I'm more than happy with that kind of accuracy.
 
+2, and I have always suspected most shooters abilities are the issue then the rifle itself.

During the Summer my wifes first time at the range, and she was hitting the 200 yards ram with one of my SKS.

My fav target these days at 100 yards is tennis balls hanging from thick string...what I consider Deer vital size.

get it from a canadian base company east wave , based in ontario, great to deal with , scope shipped from belarus and arrived in a week and a half.

scope (6x24) with attached side mount with rail $160 shipped.

Exactly!!! I don't know why people sporterize or alter in any way, shape or form... I've got a No4 Mk1 LE and I can't believe the guy before me drilled and tapped for scope... ugh. Buy a hunting rifle if you want to hunt. All matching 1945 serial mint condition.

Well Brutus, they're SKS's, not HS-50's. They're perfect for what they're for. Inexpensive shooters, an abundance of ammunition. Some people don't care about authenticity and love to butcher them with addons or whatnot, but if that's their thing, then so be it. I personally like to leave it all the way it is.

Try install scope on SKS just for fun, rich man, how about buy a nuclear bomb and
drop in some island? much more satisfaction than shooting paper target.

C'mon guys bubba them all to your heart content. They are meant to shoot not to collect dust. By the way, I was looking at those east wave scopes - how are they. Anybody has first hand experience? How is glass, if brass is hitting scope, clips if they still can be used with this scope. I do not have SKS yet so don't mind if my questions sound stupid.
