375 HH Sako - Optics recommendations

Have new in box vx5hd 1-5 firedot and a trijicon 1-4 accupoint German number 4 green also nee in box and nearly new accupoint 1-6 green number 4, all would work great. Pm if you’re looking for one as I be all 3 listed.

Depends on what you plan to use it for. The 375hh is very much at home at both short and longer ranges, so if you're going to be using it for dangerous game in close quarters then a Leupold 1-6 would be fantastic, if you want it to be a 300yd+ moose/elk gun then you'd be better served with something with a bit more on the high end...

Given that you haven't given us any specifics I'm going to assume its for hunting North American big game, at which point I'd say a Leupold VX5, in either 2-10x or 3-15x.

I have a 1953 Winchester M70 in 375 H&H. I would have liked to mount my VX-3HD 2.5-8x36 but it's too short for the H&H magnum length receiver. So I have a VX-3i 3.5-10x40 ready to go on using Leupold QRW2 quick release rings. I'm waiting for a set of Leupold steel cross slot bases I have ordered. At present they're tough to find. I've used this exact set up on my 1953 M70 in 300 H&H and quite happy with it. With the 375 H&H still having the roll over rear sight and using the QRW2 rings I can quickly remove the scope if I'm hunting in close quarters. Anyways, this is the way I've done it, others may have better ideas?

For my use because the Sako 375 H&H is already a larger heavier rifle compared to my other standard non magnum rifles and I wanted to keep the weight down as much as possible I went with a 2X7X33 Leupold compact model. The 2x on the lower end is fast enough for closer range quick shooting and the 7X offers enough definition for longer shots out to 300 yds or so.

I use a 260 or 270 grain weight premium bullet and to me this seems like a decent western open plains rig but is still a good fit for close in protection.

Lots of good recommendations above and consider buying 2 scopes so that you have a spare/backup in case one fails on an important hunt in BFnowhere. It’s a long ‘hike’ to a gun store when you’re in a fly in camp for moose out of Nikina, Ontario. Bill

One thing to consider is eye relief and getting the scope into a comfortable position. This is a bit harder with a magnum length action. I've got a Model 70 375 H&H, and after trying a few scopes, I've found that only a relatively long straight tube scope lets me get the scope far back enough for the right eye position, while using a two-piece Weaver mount (instead of a one piece rail). With a one piece rail there's a lot more flexibility, but I prefer not to have the receiver partly obstructed by a one piece rail. Lots of people have a one piece rail and they're fine with it, but this is my preference and I'm not alone in that. Also, having to put the scope pretty far back is just what I need for a comfortable, repeatable mount of the rifle. Lots of people use scopes with a front bell at 3-9, 2-10x etc. I've ended up with a VX-5HD 1-5x24. The current model Bushnell Elite 1-4x24 also does the trick and they have even longer eye relief than the VX-5HD. Anyway, if you're more in the normal range for required eye position you won't have this problem.

Although it's a bit pricey, you might consider the excellent March 1-10x24. I have one on a rimfire rifle. The image clarity is outstanding. It provides a 106-ft. field of view at 100 yards on low power and plenty of magnification at 10 power for long shots. It also has parallax correction down to 10 yards, although that's not necessary on a .375 H&H. It is short (10.3") and compact and would sit low on a rifle, and it is not overly heavy (17.8 oz.).
