I just received another e-mail from the head of mail order at S.I.R.

Unfortunately, she has been notified by her supplier that the Russian SKS’s that were supposed to be arriving around the middle of April will be delayed.:(

Here is a quote from the message: "Today's update from the supplier is now looking like June! We have updated the item on the web site to reflect this."

Personally, I don't really mind the wait (since I wasn't even planning on buying a Russian SKS until I saw how cheap S.I.R. is selling them for.)

For anyone who is impatient, there isn't anything S.I.R. can do about it except sit back and wait like the rest of us. They would gladly ship those rifles to you today if they had them in stock.

Some of you have been waiting for this shipment to arrive for awhile and have heard different (and ever-changing arrival dates.) No doubt, by now you take every update with a grain of salt.

Who knows, the arrival date may change again, but they will eventually arrive in their due time.

I guess this just gives some people a chance to stock up on ammo and accessories.:D

Cheers!:)

I haven't got mine yet, but when I talked to her earlier today she said I was number 213 (at least that is the number I remember.)

I was reading this thread on the weekend and it was already up around 160. I tried phoning and I got the message that the order desk was closed. I didn't even think to order online until I read the post of someone who had. One of the reasons I phoned today, was because I was a little nervous that they would have already been sold out.:runaway:

When I called this afternoon, they were still processing all the online orders from the weekend!

S.I.R. should hire you as a salesman, Curtton. You really got the word out FAST!

I hadn't even been paying attention. You really are an eagle-eye!:D

Cheers!

When I talked to the lady from SIR today (monday) and I was told "sometime" April. She gave me a number to write down and it was 846016. I ordered on the weekend. I'm assuming thats the invoice number but I can't remember because I was sleeping when she called, so being half awake my memory isn't too clear. Did I just write down this number incorrectly or what!?!?

They're not flying out that fast...Before the news of the Russian shipment broke, there were already 125 backorders...

that 125 backorders , was that mostly from the norinco SKS listing that was on site for months?

Well if they come mid-April, everyone will still be able to have their SKS's ready for parade at the May Day celebrations in Moscow's Red Square.:)

Thanks, I got a lil worried there.

Don't sweat the invoice #'s. S.I.R. sells more than SKS's. Each separate transaction has an invoice#. They sell a lot of ammo, other guns, fishing stuff, etc, etc, etc between SKS sales.

Wouldn't that just make a bunch of liberals pee down their legs if we could get thousands of proud SKS owners to march en mass in every major Canadian city (with bayonets extended and perfectly synchronized.)

I think I'll go practice my Russian goosestep...

yep. For all the frenzy on here, it sounds like only 1/4 of the incoming order is going out for recent purchases. I have a feeling that, much like the recent Garand imports, a few will sell immediately, but there will be plenty stagnating on dealer's shelves for a while to come.

Now I'm curious to see how many backorder customers will ##### about getting "old", used Russkie SKS's, instead of the newly made Norc's they paid for...

I wasn't aware there were recent Garand imports? Were they as inexpensive as ten years ago? I remember walking past racks of them at Lever Arms and they were so cheap I thought there was something wrong with them. Man, am I kicking myself now that I didn't research them and buy a few dozen. I never knew how good they really are, or suspected how much they would jump in value.

The Chi-Com SKS's are a different horse altogether, there were very early examples that are all milled and virtually identical to the Soviet design. Then they morph into the later production that resulted in stamped trigger guards and pinned barrels. They were packed away in crates for storage and would probably have been perfect collectors items (ie. matching serial numbers) if they hadn't had their magazines bubba'd (to comply with our restrictions) and had some of them put back in the wrong rifle. However, unless you could hand-pick them, it was a crap-shoot whether you got an early model or a less desirable later one.

I doubt we'll see many (if any) Russian SKS's that didn't see service at some point in their life. I would love to have mint examples from the different factories and the early and later production runs (not to mention the hardwood and laminate stocks.) What I'm hoping for are several nice examples of Russian small-arms engineering that have stood the test of time and are still perfectly viable today. I think the main separation of distinction in the Russian rifles will be the condition they are in; not which stage of manufacturing they represent. If they are graded as "very-good" though they should be: "in perfect working condition, no appreciable wear on working surfaces, no corrosion or pitting, only minor surface dents or scratches."

Some will undoubtedly be nicer than others, but hopefully we can all get a rifle we can admire and be proud of! I have seen some real beauties on the U.S. forums.

Cheers!

I went to the local store and bought some Igman today (bet it goes fast when the rifles show up so I wanted some ahead of time) and they said still March as far as they know. I bet they are wrong though.

Dammit I want my Russian mail order bride!

And here I am sweating that I can't put my order in till the end of March and possibly miss out on the russian rifles .. ending up only with a "cheap Norc copy" ;)

Two sides to every coin eh?

I just found out from the lady at S.I.R. that the shipment will be delayed until approximately June.

You can put in your order now to reserve your rifle(s) and have the time until they confirm your order to decide if you really want them.

They will not bill you, or ship the rifles, until you re-confirm that you want to purchase them.

They will not confirm your order until the product is in stock and if that is June (or later) that gives you lots of time.

With all these delays, I think getting, a SKS into our mitts, will be sheer luck. But what the hay, I.m in no big rush.Maybe the freighter will get a gust of wind, on it's back, and we'll get one before the summer is out.I got a Norinco SKS, to tide me over, until the real thing, somehow reaches our shores.I feel sorry for the SKS'less folks. The wait must be irritating.
