Hello
I’ve been searching for the perfect condition model 94 pre 64 for 10 years and about 2 years back I found it.
Cost me $1100
Today the original owner contacted me and asked if he could buy it back.
Apparently his son finally got his Pal and would like to have it as it was originally a gift to his Father from his deceased mother.
Anyway I’m not interested in the money but told him he could replace it with the same condition pre 64 3030.
I’ve been searching but can’t find one in this condition.
He said it was fired a couple of times when he first purchased it in 56 and then put away.
What would you think it would cost to replace it?

Thanks

If you have time to shop around $1200 or so. They do come up time to time in excellent condition. For some reason a lot of younger buyers place little to no premium on a pre 64 model 94. I see pre 64s and post 64s selling for exactly the same asking prices. Nuts but there it is.

I’ve looked at all 35 pages on the EE and most of GP and can’t find one in this condition.
It’s not about the money as I offered to exchange it for one in the same condition.

He sold this two years ago for $700 to the guy I purchased it off for $1100.

He contacted me today with his story about how he now wanted it back for his son who apparently didn’t have a PALback then.
His son recently acquired a PAL and now wants the rifle as a family heirloom.

I’m a sucker for sad stories so that’s why I offered him a trade.

I know I could just take the money, but it took me 10 years to find this one.

Agree with the above to keep searching to find the right rifle before you make the trade. No matter how long it takes, presumably the son will have retained his PAL and will be able to trade for the rifle when the time is right for you. As long as you don't have plans to alter or otherwise degrade the rifle (and I imagine that's a firm NO), it'll be the same rifle tomorrow or whenever as it is today.

You're doing this for the original owner's benefit, so I wouldn't put yourself out at a loss, and taking on the risk of maybe not finding an equivalent replacement rifle would be a loss for you.

The original owner is 80 but his son will have lots of time to replace.
That was basically the offer I put gave.

It’s going to be in the same condition I got it until my son gets it, then it’s up to him what he does with it.

I have a post 64 (was made in 69 I believe) win 94 that I got a while back and I don’t think it has ever been shot but it’s a 32 win special not a 30-30

Damn I wish I would have read this post before going o the gun show in Cold Lake today. I saw one today at the show and it was Pre 64 He claimed that it was made in 1962 and had the box of shells that it cam with and a leather scabbard. I don't think it was 3030 I beleave it was in 32 Winchester. I think he was asking $1700.00

I found this on Town Post

It's already been said. I posted without reading the whole thread.

I, like others here said that I would let the previous owner find you a suitable replacement for trade. Drop the ball in his lap.

.
OK sorry about the mixup

Had to tell but it looks like there’s some bluing loss around the edges.
I would put mine at 99..9 % bluing retention.

The orig owner sold it, so my mentality would be to keep it as to the length of time you took to find one.

Regardless of the above (me) and his story (which should've been considered by them before selling), you’ve made the offer to him for a replacement of same condition.

That is where the negotiations and you stand currently imo

It was a local deal in a small town.
He sold it to a guy for $700 who then sold it to me for$1100.
That was in 2022.
He called me Tonight saying he would like to get it back, to give to his son.

The reason he didn’t give it to his son back then was because his son didn’t have a Pal, but now he do.
I’m thinking, what’s a Pal got to do with anything.
