I really hate my B&T SPC9. Help me find a replacement 9mm PCC

I thought I’d add my 2c here

As a lefty, avoid the FX-9, the debris blowback and the non ambi controls will suck for you.

147 for a PCC? You must not compete then, as you could have shots as far as 100m, and the less drop the better. The 147 would drop a minimum 1’ compared a 124 at 6”. My PCC is zeroed at 50m minimum.

The 147 is a great projectile for a pistol, with a “fast” powder.

Your real option is a raven9, ambi everything’s, plus multiple charging options. Once broken in it’s a very reliable PCC but it is quite heavier than the Fx-9, but not as heavy as a PC9.

Lefty here.

Freedom specifically states that the FX9 isn't recommended for leftys, I've heard they can be pretty gassy but I haven't tried it myself, I'd imagine they wouldn't persuade leftys against buying their product just because.

Haven't handled the Kriss, don't believe the controls are very ambi though when I've looked into it.

Had a couple different Rugers, had zero issues with them.

Sub2k's kind of suck for us, as you've learned.

Also had a GHM9 (NR), I loved it and had zero issues shooting it.

Have you tried different ammo brands/types? I've found a big difference in shooting blowbacks with different ammo. Some are great, others are sandblasting my face with powder kernels
Pretty gassy….rectum, damn near killed em.

Raven 9 added to my list of options, thank you.

There is one king of PCC but it has been relegated to prohibited. The Beretta CX4.

That opinion aside, as a lefty your options are very limited. I can not think of any other 9mm carbines that can eject left.

Perhaps a deflector can be fashioned to direct downward?
I wish I had the Beretta option. I’ve heard good things.

Sorry that has been your experience experience. Have you considered changing charging handles? I know B&T has used different charging handles with different manufacturing runs.

Mine came with an older style BCM and has been flawless so far with PMC 124gr or Norma 124 gr.

It is probably my favourite rifle, so sorry yours isn’t performing well.

What province are you in? Maybe it’s something you compare with another owner and see if it’s just your model, as I’ve never read about issues with gas and the B&T models.
Mine came with the BCM as well. It’s a great gun, but the gas-in-the-face lefty issue is the problem. It’s one of the reasons I abandoned the S2K platform. I don’t think it’s an issue per se for right handed people. Wish there was a way to capture the gas splatter on paper to show you guys.

I shoot out of Burlington, Ontario.

FX9 is not good for lefty shooters I had one and got rid of it quick
Sub 2000 was a bit better but not by much
TNW asr seems to be ok as does the S&W
If remember right the JR carbine was ok too
I want to try the s&w as I have an m&p 2.0. Any lefties out there with the S&W?

Sounds like I should have gone the other way. Was moments away from a GHM9 but went the other way when I saw the SPC9 was back in stock. I’m a sucker for anything that looks like an AR lol

Alright, here are the options so far:

FX9: heard it has the same issues with gas blowback.

JR Carbine: had one in 40S&W and it jammed like Welch’s.

S2K: hot gas in your face guaranteed.

Ruger PC9: was a great 9mm option. No issues. Sold mine. Shall not return.

Raven 9: need more info on how it shoots.

Baretta CX4: gotta wait until the turd has been flushed.

Vector: I’ve tried the 45 version it was great but the ergonomics takes some getting used to.

GMH9: must try before I buy, as it’s expensive and I’ve been bitten by B&T before, with my blind faith in the SPC9.

I’m a lefty and have shot my wife’s S&W numerous times, haven’t noticed any blowback really. I’ve owned the Ruger and it was also no problem for a lefty, didn’t notice any blowback in the year and a half I ran it in competition. I am currently running a Kodiak K9, when I originally shot it with the stock charging handle my initial thought was I would be selling it immediately due to excessive blow back, it was a bit unpleasant for a lefty. I decided instead to change out the AR style charging handle with an aftermarket ambi handle and the difference was astounding, literally no more blow back at all. I have been running that carbine for almost a year now and it has become my favourite carbine by a long shot, AR like controls and very lefty friendly make it a winner for me. I have seen them for under $1k for the 18” stock model and after picking up a 9” upper from Kodiak I’m still about where I would have been if I had bought an FX9 ( honestly haven’t found the FX9 to be as bad as some claim it is for lefties 🤷‍♂️) so it might also be something to consider
I’d add the K9 to your list

Well one thing about the Raven, 4/5 top Canadians going too world shoot are using them, FX-9 is close second.

I’ll put my FX-9 against a raven any day.

But unfortunately you are left handed 🤣😂😅

Left is the CDN PCC champions (lefty) Raven, vs my FX-9

I'm a lefty and have never incurred any residual gas/powders on any of my APC/GH rifles. Would have thought the SPC9 is the same in terms of that but I guess I'm glad I didn't but one.

As for the kriss, being a lefty it's a pain for me for mag changes and even "reverse AK style" charging it

Fingers crossed that our CX4s can get back out to the range soon.

I’m left handed and specifically asked how they are as a lefty to shoot. They said no problem. I bought it brought it home and filled a mag. Every shot my face felt like I was being sand blasted. I took it back and they wanted to charge me a 35% restocking charge. I came un glued and got my money back. CZ scorpions were great to shoot as a lefty but they are in jail. A Raven 9 is probably the best option but plan on having a spare firing pin.

To be fair.... the SPC9 is one of the ###ier NR offerings. I'm a lefty and WAS considering this but I'll have to rethink that now.

Another option if you can find one in stock is the Tavor in 9mm. It can be full lefty....including the ejection port.

I've also heard the Kodiak K9 NSR is serviceable as a lefty once you change the charging handle.

What Charging handle did you change it to?

I have an NR B&T SPC9 safe queen and it pisses me off. Got it direct from the store, splurged for its crazy price thinking I’d never buy another PCC again. Boy was I mistaken.

Why? I’m a lefty, but I don’t think it matters as I’ve tried to fire it right handed. Both ways leave me with face fulls of hot gas. Whenever I shoot I feel the heat and power debris run across my face. Anyone who’s experienced this knows how much it sucks. I’m fairness, my Gen 1 Sub2k does this as well. The only way to control it is by adjusting the stock to its full length and carefully adjusting myself in an uncomfortable position. What a waste of 5k.

Any better choices out there? Will I have a different experience with the FX9 or others?
I'm also a lefty. I'm surprised that the B&T did this to you but for all blowback 9's this is an issue of overgassing. I owned an FX9 years ago before I shot PCC seriously, before I really knew how they work and the same thing happened. Burned me in the lips every time I shot it. Hated it so much I got rid of it.

Any overgassed 9mm blowback will do this until it's been tuned, it's just more prevalent for lefties. I believe the SPC9 hydraulic buffer system is somewhat proprietary but you should be able to replace the buffer tube and go with either a really heavy buffer like the lockhart Raven adjustable buffer, or go with a specialty buffer like the Scheel roller delayed system or Kynshot hydraulic system. You may even be able to simply replace the recoil spring with a heavier one and the issue should be resolved.

Any overgassed 9mm blowback
9mm blowback are not over gassed...they are direct blowback. Can't be over gassed without a gas block and gas system.
It's the design of a direct blow back system, it uses the gas from the cartridge ignition to propel the bolt backwards. Unless you buy a left handed rifle set up, there will always be gases that will come out of the ejection port on the right hand side of the rifle. Some are better than others, but it will always be an issue to some degree with all right hand set up direct blowbacks used by lefties.
I would recommend a JR Carbine as they are the only PCC I know of that can be made full lefties set up
