I got it as a gift brand new in the box from my wife she doesn’t know calibers and thought it was a nice gun

My question is the 6.5 close enough to my 308win that I’ve used over the years

Id say it's "enough" but why take it when you have a trusty .308 that does the job already?

6mm guns are goat and deer cartridges IMO. But I'm also going by pretty limited experience with it.

People take down moose with bow and 30-30 so yes you can, but it's less forgiving. Distance and shot placement must be right.

It's really not the greatest model tho :/

Would be pretty unethical to use 6.5 creedmoor for moose. They likely would just keep on trucking along after getting shot.

Naw, I bet the moose would take it one step further.

He'd likely stare you down with his best death stare, while you pumped shot after shot into his lungs and heart. As you frantically load another mag into your rifle and another into the chamber, you stare back at the moose before sending another round.

The absolute distain on his face stops you dead from sending another down range. The moose can't help but wonder how you could possibly be such a pu$$y, as to send such a measly bullet in his general direction. A bullet fired from a cartridge with such a puny amount of Kinetic Energy and raw, unadulterated, Knock-Down-Power.

The moose would then turn and walk away from you as if nothing had happened to it. Other than to slightly lift it's tail while it saunters off, to show you what it really thinks of you.

Totally ETHICAL to shot a moose with a 6.5 CM ! It has about the same power as the Old 6.5 x55 Swede which has probably harvested a few hundred thousand moose over the years . Moose are NOT hard to kill with a good shot thru there large lungs . 👍 RJ

In Europe the 6.5 x 55 likely killed more moose than any other calibre. That being said, the Creed is a bit of an underperformer with heavier < 140 gr. than the Swede due to case capacity. 158-160 gr JSPs have been the standard for hunting for years. That being said, a good 140 gr that is designed to stay together would give you the penetration that you need; lighter recoil is a plus also.

Me? While I have a 6.5 x 55, I would use 9.3 x 62 just because I have one. LOL

Dude, why are you even asking this?
Your loving and caring wife bought you a gun ...admittedly might not be up to your standards .
But and a big But have you ever heard the phrase Happy Wife Happy Life.
Get outdoors with her and share the experience .
Just my .05 worth of Justinflation.

I agree with many of the other commentators here. There is nothing wrong with the 6.5 CM for what your primary targets are. I own a 6.5 Swede, and I would go out with it without concern if I had decent bullets. Heck, they do it all the time in Scandinavia to shoot moose, even with all the modern day options. Throw some Partitions or Barnes (or something similar) in it and go get them!

In my opinion (which isn't worth much), moose aren't that terribly hard to kill. My dad used a 25-06 to hunt moose for years (with Barnes), and has used a 270 the past 20 or so years. Again, zero issues with proper placement. Folks use the 6.5 to shoot elk at obscene distances, and I'd argue that moose are no harder to kill than an elk.

Let me see... your wife bought you a gun.

Stop right there, and consider what just happened.

The only possible move you have here (and it's 100% the correct one) is to keep the rifle, fawn over it like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread or the invention of Varget, and go shoot a moose with it.

Just in case you missed the punch line, I'll repeat it. Your wife bought you a gun.

Not really, but it'll work fine for all of the animals you've listed here. Many will say it's not enough for moose, but as long as you can hit it in the vitals and aren't too far away, it'll do the job just fine. Quality bullets and quality shooting are required though.

Wish my wife would buy me a gun ....
