Planning a move to Saskatchewan. Looking around the Swift Current, Maple Creek, Kindersley area. One of the 10 or so acre homesteads subdivided from a farm. A few available. Just started looking. Probably not enough to hunt on. And all the fields look private. Where do you hunt? Sounds like lots of Geese. Deer?

I'd guess lots of mule deer out that way, and pronghorn. Lake diefenbaker is not far from that area if you are into fishing.
(Sorry, I'm in the other corner so not much help.)

In the farmland, you have to learn how to make contacts for permission. The Geese and Ducks migration patterns have changed in response to drought and lack of standing water.
You'll have to figure out your personal stand on potentially CWD infected animals. It's discouraging to shoot a deer, do all the work to put meat in the freezer, only to have to discard it because of a positive CWD test.
Many of us just quit hunting deer.

Everything is private, have to get drawn to hunt anything but whitetail and the deer population is its lowest in about 20 years.

Great province & people. I would just ask a farmer/landowner, all the ones I knew were hunters, etc. If you are polite & respectful, no problem. If they say "no" don't get discouraged. Make sure you check out all that there is to see & do in SK, like Grasslands National park, the Sand dunes etc. Like I said, great place. I miss it.

Some very affordable rural small acreage properties in southern Sask., but WTF is up the property taxes????

Noticed that as well. Goes from under 1k to over 3k. 1.5k is about what we're looking for. And an attached garage would be at the top as well.

edit And love some of the outbuildings and shops!!

If you never lived there take a closer look. It is COLD and can be lonely, depending on you.
Usually a reason for low prices. Keep the heating bill and gasoline bills in mind, if a little taxes are a bother.

OK mild when you get the chinook dregs. Been there in the middle of winter when it hit 18C. But regina, swift current if you enjoy your tea there is a hard water scum on the surface!!

6.5 years in Regina and then Calgary and I remember mild when on the way to winterpeg at christmas had to kick the frozen slush out from the wheel wells because it wouldn't let me turn...and then there was the overnight in Regina in the mustang convertible(which was warm), outside was -40C overnight with a 'slight' wind. 😉

Which raises another issue when moving to Saskatchewan. The quality of the water. Some groundwater is beyond awful. Some places have such poor water quality that they have water trucked in.
I know people who use bottled water for all human consumption. They have their own treatment system for laundry and other washing purposes, but coffee or tea made with that water tastes like dishwashing water..

Looking at a property with a well. Nitrate level 47 mg/L. Would need a filtration system. Maybe the well needs work. Don't know how deep it is.
