Shotgun fanny packs

I recently got into sporting clays and I've gone through a few of these options. I shoot 100 - 250 shells every weekend for the passed 5 weekends. Gunna slow down because money, not because of my bruised ass shoulder.

Bandoliers are great, but mine (one with elastic loops) is a pain to reload. Its perfect if you have a few friends out shooting because you can use your down time to reload it. Bandoliers are also great if you need to haul your gear for some distance. Our sporting clay trail is about 200m from the club house so carrying the guns, clays, ammo, and whatever else is a bit of a slog. I got the cheapest bandolier I could find on amazon and I've had no issues. Plus, as people mentioned, they look cool.

I 3D printed a side saddle that I attached via Velcro. Its printed out of PLA-CF. It holds up fine but the inertia of the saddle loaded with shells causes it to creep forward. I need to experiment on ways to eliminate that creep. I think rotating portions of the Velcro 90 degrees will work. Otherwise I'll modify the mount to use the pins to secure it. If you're interested in the model I can email you the file.

I have ordered a fanny pack. After 700 shells this is in my mind will be the easiest way to hold/access/shoot as many shells as I'm comfortable carrying. That being said, I'll continue to use a variety of options.

Why not get a sporting clay shell caddy/pouch?

They're designed to fit a full box of 25 shells come in different sizes. Some will hold 2 full boxes plus hulls and other will hold 1 box plus hulls and someone will only hold 1 full box and no hulls.

I will lol.

It was between that and a fanny pack. Just decided to spend $20 rather than $40 basically. I want to get into leather working and the caddy would be a great first project due to its simple shape.

I find belt mounted cards work well, the dsc pouch and extra cards stay in my day pack if I’m walking trails hunting small game. Or I can attach one to the shotgun, one on my belt and a third in a pocket.

Have the belt only because it was on sale, I find it bulky and heavy for general use. My diy belt carrier works better for me, grouse limit for my MU is 5/day. So a loaded gun and a full card on the belt give me 9 shells, 15 if I have a spare card in my pocket. Or some slugs in case I see a deer or bear up close.

For me and for the range it is a fanny pack or a smaller size Maxpedition Rollypoly dump pouch with a belt ....

For hunting ... I normally have a muff around my waist and that has loops to hold around 10 - 15 shells .... and that has pockets for more shells ....

And for the zombie apocalypse I have a ground drone/robot programmed to stay bedside my side at all times. It carries 5000 12ga rounds .... ready at all times .... 😂

Where did you find the Browning belt?

I wear a fanny pack when walking the dogs as well its annoying to have soo much stuff in your pocket. A Merch store I like had Drug Money Fanny packs but they were out of stock :(

Beats the tactical lint pockets.

I have three different ways of carrying lots of shells depending on what Im doing. Clays,Pheasants, upland birds as well as crows I like my old Galtco leather pouch. It holds lots of shells and its extremely quick. For field shooting ducks geese I like my neoprene belt when hunting the panel blinds and going to help the dog dispatch wounded birds if it becomes overwhelming for a single dog. Great in the boat as well. When wading I have another neoprene unit that easily holds 35 or more shells and high on the waders so the shells arent getting wet unless you do lol. IMG_1569[1].JPG

TYR waist pack mated to a Perroz hand warmer and perroz shell holders in the front pocket. Mora, Mut, and fire steel in the back of the TYR. Use it at our Lori Perry up north. Very remote. I hike and snowshoe a ton up there. It’s scaleable and works well in both summer and winter over gear.
