Kodiak Defense had made something called the SKS-15... did anyone know where I can get that chassis as it is built around the SKS core.

I had heard a company in Montreal is working on this now. Does anyone know which company is it, and how I could get in touch with them?

I'm still not part of the buy-and-sell so I have no visibility into used ones (yet)

Much obliged!

I don't think they've made these in a while. Used might be the only option.

I'm also not sure if they ever sold them as just the chassis? They might have and I just don't remember it...

I don't mean to sound like a fudd, but you're honestly better off with the original stock or one of those ATI Monte Carlo style ones. That chassis is a boat anchor and dreadful to look at, and it complicates field-stripping.

Anything build around a SKS as a chassis will be heavy and expensive. I had them all.

There was Kodiak SKS 15 scorpio for sale at the gunshow in Chilliwack for $900. Don't pay the $1,500 some dreamers are asking in #######.

Don't the wk180/181 have issues with piston breakage?

Not the 181. 7.62x39 has much less pressure than a 556 round, so no issues snapping pistons. There's a thread on here about a 10k round count test they're doing. So far other than a bit of loctite It's passing with flying colors.

Just save the cash and either get an SKS-D, or a Type 81. Anything else on the SKS is a waste of time and effort. If you must: keep it simple. Get an aftermarket stock and install a cross-bolt, then call it a day.

I currently own an SKS-D, and a Chinese standard SKS that sits in a Tapco stock I got ages ago, simply because the ergonomics were better. I get the urge to tinker, but there are better options out there that simply weren't available in the 2000's when SKS's were dirt cheap and there were no CZ-858/Type 97/Type 81 (or a 180 based cope rifle) on the market yet.

tyler is right about the tapco being more ergo - i've had a couple tulas and now an FT I put into a tapco and I find it way better than the wood stocks. However, in a thread on SKSBoards there was discussion of weight of diff styles, so I weighed the Tapco with a Tula and it was about 20-oz more than the Tula in wood. Not a bid diff but still . . . I'm staying with the Tapco 'cause I like it. I can paint it Pink if the Liebs/Ponies get after 'em.

Actually.
False. It weighed 1lb LESS than the original stock.

Actually it is about 1lb more than a SKS. How do I know? ;) Feelwise it is about the same as a H&K SL8 but I can't verify it since I sold my SL8.

And to the fellow above thinking it is worth $900 is also dreaming. I had 2, sold one last month for $1,500 on gp. People buy it, had others message me, so $1,500 is about right.
