I picked up a box of 168 grain TSX yesterday, the regular TSX not TTSX. I am going to be firing them from a 30-06 rifle with a tight chamber. Hoping to avoid pressure problems. So wondering what powders people have been using that gave low pressure. If anyone has the barnes book that could tell me the pressure figures for the different powders on that bullet i would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I too was about to load the same load for my new 06. Anyway I’ll be trying Imr 4350 and the 4 or 5 sources I checked were starting around 53g and maxing about 57. Myself I’m aiming for about 55g and hope to get more life out of the primer pockets that my hot loads have in the past. See how it goes?

The 165 TSX didn’t shoot great with either of the 4350’s (H&IMR) so I tried IMR 4064 that they recommended as most accurate. This was a winner ! Ironically it is the 3rd time that my best accuracy with Barnes bullets has come with their recommended accuracy powder and all with excellent velocity.

Same experience as mine.

Whats your seating depth? Looking at copying your data......
measure your rifle for the seating depth or use the book seating depth every chambers depth could be different
how did you determine your rifle has a tight chamber besides the chamber will be cut to industry specs so it really does not matter what powder you use

Over a 40 yr period of reloading I used more than 30 lbs of 4064 in my BAR and Garand. Kind of upper midrange hunting and target loads. Maybe not the fastest loads possible but easy on the semi auto rifles/brass and excellent accuracy in both rifles. Hornady 165 SP,s in both rifles. Also a few lbs through my M14 with 150 gr FMJ's for service type shooting (It now sits in a basement safe!) Thanks Justin.

faster burning powder pressures rise faster with heavier bullets slower burning powder pressures rise slower you match the powder burning rate to the bullet
