what's the most useless gun ever

any shot and ultra magnum,
M-14, M-16 and off springs,
any semi-auto shotgun,
in-line muzzle loaders,
M-94
any 'survival gun' ..............

i guess you get the idea.

I personally dislike the ruger mini thirties. Never shot one but I just don't see the point myself. I also don't like the ruger semi autos in .44 cal, don't remember the model# right now. It just seems a waste to have a 44 mag with only a 4 shot clip. Don't get me wrong though I'd still buy one even though I'd never use it hunting. I'm also not a huge fan of the savage #24 o/u shotgun/rifle. It would make a good coyote gun but I find the barrel selector awkward and talk about ugly!

I actually disagree. I can see how you can feel that way based on your location, but for those of us who hunt the bush out here......

The mini 30 makes a great bush gun. There is SP hunting ammo available, and the X39 makes a much better deer cartridge than the .223...the performance is about on-par with the 30-30.

The Ruger .44 carbines and deerfields are my FAVORITE Deer and B. bear bush gun. The 44 out of a carbine has plenty of snot out to 120 yards (I shoot 240 gr. JSP's), and the recoil makes fast follow-ups a breeze. I've shot deer at 15 yards and Bears at 119 yards, all bang-flops, no massive damage.

The savage 24 is my "go to" gun for grouse/rabbits. I prefer the 22 mag over 20 ga. witht he hammer mounted selector. I keep the SG barrel selected for flushing grouse/running rabbits, and if I get a standing shot I have time to flip to the .22 mag barrel (which is also good for the occasional 'yote at reasonable ranges)

Lots of varied opinions in this thread, it's good :)

whats wrong with shooting cracker shells and shot loads in the same guns, crackers are VARY corrosive but if you clean the barrel right after shooting them there is no harm done. how is the study center going to contract out bear gards if they can't afford to fix their vehicles.

The shotgun that is loaded with crackers will likely be used with slugs as well. This can result in a hazardous situation because of the risk of plastic being left in the barrel, particularly if a cracker explodes in the barrel. At the very least a partial obstruction will result in a ringed barrel (or worse) when a live round is fired. In a dangerous bear situation, if the bear is not turned by the cracker it is possible to shoot a slug without checking for an obstruction. Keep your killing guns and your scare guns separate.

Think how much the Study Center will have to pay out in damages if a student gets injured because a shotgun barrel fails or is mauled by a bear. A qualified bear guard is cheap insurance, and you could handle that job better than many I've seen tasked with it. To me, it is poor practice to charge someone with protecting a group from polar bears if they have never killed a big animal. Dangerous game under stressful conditions is a poor place to learn the trade.

those 18lb 'tactical' shotguns with full length picatinny rails, lights, lasers, red dot sights, front and rear pistol grips, mag extensions, buttstock shell holders and sidesaddles.

dont take it personal though - whatever floats your boat. regardless of what you say in one of these threads youre going to get someone all worked up.

sks prooved reliable

My vote goes to the ......you guessed..the crappy sks.......:runaway:

Seems the sks prooved extreamly reliable in the Vietnam war. This tiny country full of goat hearders and farmers had black powder rifles and sks riles to fend off the whole U.S army!! and they did just that!

I guess a 44 mag and 7.62 x 39 would be pretty good "bush" guns but I'd rather have the 44 in a marlin lever than a ruger semi auto due to mag capacity (i know i know make the first shot count) I just personally don't like the mini thirty due to the way it looks. I guess most of the reason i don't like the sav 24 is due to me being a lefty which makes the selector awkward. Different strokes i guess. But I'll stick to my bolts for the open and levers for the bush and the nostalgic feeling i get when carrying my 94
