Ran into a nice looking double barrel 12 guage it's a side by side and hammerless. The only markings it has is on the rib between the barrels it is marked government approved for smokeless powder and on the side of the receiver is a Capitol E inside a diamond. Curious what it could be and if it's worth anything the gun is in amazing condition

An uneducated guess without pics or further info as to whether it's tight on face, been refinished, pitting in the bores, dents in the barrels, loose ribs, worn checkering, short chambers etc. would be $100.00 to likely $375.00 tops for very nice condition. From the stamping on the rib, I'm guessing it was a lower end gun made in Belgium. But as mentioned, we need pics and more info. Any markings on the underside of the barrels (the barrel flats) would tell us where it was made.

The OP posed his question 2 days ago and hasn't bothered to respond to anyone who has tried to help him with his gun. BTW, he was on line this morning. Gunsaholic and MT143 have put more effort into than the OP has. Not very impressive.

So had chance to go look at the gun today and took everyone's advice it is indeed a Belgium made gun for eatons it's the exact gun in the picture left it there as there was heavy pitting in bores too bad because she looked mint

That right there is a bit of Canadian history and might be enough for some to jump on the deal.
A picture is worth a thousand words.

Hi All,

Think I've come across a similar shotgun, that a guy would like to use for partial trade. Smokeless marking on rib, Diamond E.

How much would an Eatons double hammer, double trigger, SxS be worth? Locks up tight, everything seems very good, clean bores, etc. Seems to be a shorter length. He said a machinist told him that it'd be fine with steel shot, not sure myself.

No pics, just gave it a once over and said I'd see what the going range might be. He's doing some checking on what I'm offering as well. Maritimes if region changes evaluation.

Modern steel shot loads in an old double barrel are a recipe for disaster...meaning damaged or burst barrels at a minimum. A machinist is not a gunsmith.

Well, not sure of its age. I thought some with that particular rib stamping were actually good for steel.

But if it's worth a decent price for the trade, the centre fire rifle inserts and maybe those new 12GA air inserts might be worth testing out with it.

It is certainly pre WW2 and not designed to take our modern high pressure hunting loads and even if it holds together for a couple of "Proof shots" that is no guarantee the next one won't cost you a hand or more. Hang it on the wall: STUFF is right about the value.

If you are looking check out https://intersurplus.com/collections/side-by-side, they are a site sponsor, they import firearms by the container load. They have great pricing, amazing selection, and their grading system is accurate. I have bought many firearms from them, and they have always arrived in better condition than I was expecting.

I recently bought a S x S shot gun from them, a Hungarian FEG in 12 ga. Listed as good ++, it arrived looking just like new with perfect bluing and perfect wood. If you can find one, they are built like a bank vault. Husqvarna, Baikal etc. Lots of great guns, and prices start around $250.00.

Iam not sure whats going on but the person who started this thread seems to have exact same username as my self i even got a message saying someone quoted my post but i never started this could a mod explain whats going on
