I like most of you GunNutz have wants not needs but wants for future purchases .
I don’t have a SemiAuto rifle in any configuration .

What about an SKS ? Are they still available ? Do you think they will become prohibited given the current government ?

Let’s see what happens with the reply’s
I have another want as well so going to post that up in another forum
Thanks

They are still available at stupid prices. The last one I had I paid 200 and sold for 450 (and I remember when they were $80).

Now they are 750-950 or more, depends on Russian or Chinese and the configuration (stock, chrome, etc etc). They are at best a 2-3MOA rifle with ammo that 'used' to be dirt cheap. Now you can't buy Russian ammo and all the rest of the cheap ex Soviet bloc and ChiCom is $$$, and is mostly corrosive.

The libs will not come out and say 'yes' they are going to ban them. The Minister was asked that to provide a yes/no answer and did not reply with that type answer. They have no idea how they can play that one out without all the native groups telling them to pound sand.

Heidi wants them gone and she's almost foaming at the mouth about it. Mr Potato Head said recently (yesterday or day before) they will form a committee with the RCMP included and make a decision at some point.

What SKS('s)?? Lol

IMHO, for all of its faults, it's still a viable firearm when used within its designed functions.
There are some mods available that work for those who like to tinker.
The prices have jumped ludicrously, but good condition examples can be had for reasonable (for today) prices.

The only way to 'afford' one is to find a "motivated seller". I see the FTs and 'regular issued' Nors on GP around $6-700 occasionally, and Russkies a bit less. The Chinese ones are Certainly a better deal with little or No shots fired. My last Russian had a bore that showed it wasn't cleaned much and lotsa Corrosive ammo used. My FT bore is still like a mirror (with a bit of stains  )

Okay as mentioned I know nothing about them . Can you buy them brand new I guess what I mean is only test fired ? Not been issued .
Just saw the above post .
So you can get a French Tickler never fired ?
Thats a Chinese one correct ?
With the plastic handgaurd ?

They are commie cr@p.
Yes still available.
Yes they will likely be prohibited at some point.

They are currently overpriced due to being the only affordable SA in Canada
Buy one while you can.

This does sum it up, though I wouldn't call them crap. They are a cold war era battle rifle that is robust and reliable and offer minute of enemy accuracy at reasonable distances.

They are also as crude as you would expect from a Soviet era piece of military equipment, and I think they offer a bit old time combloc milsurp charm while letting you shoot away with little concern for damaging the rifle or hurting its value.

As IDCAY says, better buy one while you can and before prices skyrocket even farther.

Get a French Tickler if you are looking for a shooter, they are brand new and bakelite handguard makes its easier to flush with hot water when cleaning after shooting corrosive.

If you are looking to run a red dot on it, get a badace v3 mount that replaces the rear sight leaf. It also has a notch that works as a backup rear sight. Zero the dot and the backup irons at 300m and you'll be able to hit a head-size target (30cm height) all the way from close quarters to 300m by using 6-o'clock hold. That's the intended use of this battle carbine.

You won't get moa groups from it and it's not modular, so many despise it and call it commie crap. But it is what it is, a very reliable and easy to use weapon that can effectively hit man size targets up to 300m, doesn't require tools to disassemble and requires no magazines to manage. By the way, bayonet makes a great monopod for shooting prone.

IT goes bang from -30°C - 50°C weathers, It costed 80-200$to buy in 2019 based on condition. Over the years with limited access to Semi autos, their prices have gone up due to scalpers charging close to 700-800$ for one, this started during the limited supply from stoppage of imports and temporary closure of many stores during the pandemic.
The prices have not gone down since then.
They are all over gassed and will eat any, and every round of ammo you feed them.
Corrosive surplus will eat through the barrel, if not cleaned after, this is why you will find a bunch of the internals pitted. Even the worst condition rifle you buy will still hit a stop sign sized target from 200 yards. I have owned some that were 2moa, some were 12 moa.

Most people buy them because they've lasted multiple decades, and unless you leave them leave it in the rain, will last a few more. There was also a lot of 7.62x39 made during those times, we are still consuming the surplus to this day, although it has gone from 25c a round to 70c now.

TLDR: Cheap ammo go bang, rifle double as walking stick, bayonet to roast marshmallows.

Leavenworth - There may be some 'un-fired' FTs left if you shop around - BP reportedly had some this summer, but you would need to inspect one to be sure it was the 'un-fired' one . . . take a bore scope with you. They also had some that were 'Issued' so may have been used. BP has them for $640 right now, but 'warns' "Not exactly as shown" so ordering online is a cra*shoot. GP has had some in my prov for the same price range, but Also some "collectible  Russian SKS for ca $1K. I got my FT last Summer for the mentioned $450 an it was UN-fired and in about a cup of Cosmo. Shoots like a 'New SKS' in my Tapco stock - I got Under 2-MOA at 175 yds. with Barnaul SP on a nice day Last Summer.

Thank you fellas lots of information !
A couple of things . I’m not a firearm expert so I would not know what to look for in regards to the bore of the barrel . Pitting I would think would be easy enough .
Not sure what Province you are in ?

Just buy one and shoot it. See how you like it. If not, sell it for the same price you paid. I have owned MANY, and they appeal to me for a myriad of reasons. Not everyone's cup of tea. There are much fewer available on EE these days, but always still a handful. Some are still listed but already sold.

Buy one? Yes. Well. Get two. Why? Because the feds are desperate to show a shrill minority pressure group that they are important. If you expect minute of angle accuracy, you're in the wrong section of the gun store. But, for S&G they are 3 to 4 MOA rifles and will not disappoint.

We have had SKS rifles in the top 3 finishers at our club milsurp matches for many years. It's not the shooter, it's the rifle.

L - I don't know how well the SKSs in stores are cleaned before sales. My FT last year took lots of varsol (outdoors) then 99% Alcohol to get the cosmo off. But the bore was fine > I presume the bit of dark 'stain' is from test firing?

The Jungle Stock one I got was numbers s matching rifle and looks to be as new.The same for the French Tickler as it was also numbers matching and not issued or so it seems. You can find them for $650.00 ish around the site. Russian ones are about $200.00 more. Popped a Hush Holster stock on the tickler with a Tapco removable mag and painted bayo black.A great rifle you can mod to your desire.I built it to take in backwoods in N.B.on the wheeler or easy fit in knapsack when dismounted on a recce.Just sayin.

As others have said , SKSs are around , but prices have increased substantially . They will probably stay non prohibited due to the volume of them currently in Canada , and the fact that they are widely used , and possessed , by First Nation's hunters .

They will probably not get cheaper
When they are banned you can store them in the lake
They work as well after three crates of ammo and no cleaning as they did on the day you bought them . . .
