New Bolt Action .223

By far my favourite 223 so far is a 20" Tikka stainless Lite with 1/8 twist. Using an Atlasworx AICS CTR footprint bottom metal and MDT 10 shot polymer mag. The original mag will not take longer loaded 75gr. I believe MDT also have a hunter AICS version of the floorplate. You don't need to by a CTR for the conversion but the stock needs to be CTR floorplate inlet.

I have never had a weaker magazine than my tikka ctr. the metal was a soft as lead, same with the mag springs. the slightest hint of dust and it wouldn't lift the next cartridge. anyone recommending this mag system has brain damage. Acis pattern mag(bought the whole mdt chassi) was its only redemption.

I have grown to appreciate a basic top loading hinged floorplate rifle. the new cz 600 action looks like it combines a detachable mag, that you can top up without removal.

Ruger ranch is an absolute abomination with the ar mags. They have cut away most of the support that would let the bolt slide smoothly... one of the most horrible experiences with a bolt action ever.

If your after .223, I would be shopping for a mini action. My Steven's 223 is comically sized for the cartridge.

Because they look interesting, I just picked up a Hera H6. Nice little guy, although with it being so damn cold I don't have many rounds through him yet. But nice light, easy handling option for a run-around and truck gun.

I hope you don't have feeding issues like I did. Great rifle minus that part. I figured out why though if you need a fix for it

As I say, not many rounds through, few mags, but I did not have any problem. Just got a steel mag for it from a friend, haven.t tried yet. But will definitely be interested if any issues show up. Thanks.

Sako, cz/brno, maybe a model 70, all things I've been considering in 223
Maybe a tikka hunter, although i wanted an action sized to the cartridge. The tikka fan boys are always pushing them.

Yes that’s the one.
1-9 don’t really make a difference to me as I have about 4000 55 g projectiles.
Unless I’m missing something?
CT is asking $750 , is there something better for equivalent prices

I have an opportunity to buy a rem model 7 , laminate stock, open sights for the same price.

If u pass on the rem mod 7, tell the owner i will take it

MDT .223 poly mags are good for up to 2.44 oal, fits my 69gr bt's seated with full neck contact, max oal i would go, might not be the best for longer heavies.
the MDT metal mags are good to 2.50

That's a tough one. I own both a Ruger Ranch in 556 (Gen 1.5 i guess... it's the AR mag version) and a Tikka CTR in 223. For your purposes, if you are going to be hunting mostly, then i would either stick with the Ruger (ranch or predator, or whatever they are calling the new ones), or a regular Tikka, not the CTR if you are planning to lug the thing around, especially if any of the younger or smaller statured family members might shoot offhand. Setting up and calling, and not stalking then the CTR (or even the Varmint) comes back into play. Both are great rifles, the Tikka being more refined and the Ruger a lot less expensive. Both fully capable out to the max range you can harvest yotes to with the 223.

Yes if you need longer then metal MDT would be better, I have not needed one yet. If I seat 0.3mm from the lands on my T3 with 75A-Max which is boat tail junction at neck junction then the cartridge sits like this in the original T3 223 Magazine.

I paid over $2000 for the Bergara.

Great thread. Iam also looking for nice budget .223 rifle mostly as bench rifle . I love Ruger ranch rifle so Iam on the edge what to get. My concern is that mag fed rifles are next on the ban list and CZ I wont buy as matter of principles.

then look for one with a proper stock, you may find one that is ready to go
next option is to find that special chassis/stock you want and just go with the action that fits
cart < horse or cart > horse
