Brigade Makasi MK15 We're back in business!!

Can someone explain to me why the AR got prohibited and this one once it lands in canada, will not get the same outcome.
If the gvt is willing to give me a document that the class of this firearm will not change in the future, I am willing to even pay a premium for this firearm
There is literally zero guarantee this will stay NR. With a new liberal majority, there is a very real threat that this will also be killed by the OIC by name. Buying this rifle is a gamble and you must understand and accept that. By end of this year, it could be illegal to own.

That being said, the gophers can sniff my nuts- respectfully. If you've got $2500 to burn, you may as well enjoy the ride.

Previous OIC bans were enacted under "ban now, buyback later" framework, when the details of the "voluntary compensation program" were not planned out yet. When the previous bans happened, the government could simply hand wave any skepticisms with "we're still working on the buyback, we'll make it work!".

Now that it's obvious that "compensation program" didn't work, new OIC bans much harder to justify than the previous bans. How are they even going to implement it? There is no more mechanism for buyback. The declaratory period is already over. Unless they drastically walk back the "amnesty" period and re-open the "compensation program", which would also sink the credibility of the government.

Not that they can't introduce more OIC bans, but the probability is lower than before. The previous OIC bans caused them a massive quagmire with zero gain, why would they make it worse with more bans? Or they could just ban it with no compensation, no amnesty and make all owners criminals instantly. Also a bad look.

Then again, this is a logic based assessment. This government isn't known for operating on logic.

The crypto comparison is also a poor analogy. The crypto never had a FRT, the MK15 already has a NR FRT entry. Keep in mind that FRT isn't law.

This pre-order crap gets old.
Imma just gonna wait til IRG gets off their butt and imports me a rezzie pistol then I can plop on an 18.5" and avoid the wait.
Don't give me the "oh, you're gonna be on the radar!". That radar ping sailed loooooong ago my friends. Potentially losing a bit of cash on another rifle is par for the course in socialist Kanada...

Because the AR-15 and others were banned by name via an OIC. It's their "whack-a-mole" approach to gun bans first used in the 1990s.

Newer, proprietary designs are therefore unaffected by this approach of gun bans. That's why after the 2020 OIC you see a ton of AR-180B derived models popping up.

They tried to patch this so-called "new gun loophole" by adding a new prohibited firearm definition via C-21, but since this gun predated C-21 by 11 months, it slipped through.

Don't be surprised if the majority party invents a new law just to ban this rifle.
