6x47 remington 85gr BTSP data?

im using a Speer BTSP 85gr tip and H4895?.... AR2206H to us here in Aus--
min load 24 up to 26gr from the ADI website--
about 2500 up to 2700 fps-
coal at 2.440 or so-

hows that sound to you fellas?

im loading some rounds now and aiming to shoot them over the chrony tonight when the new to me krico turns up at home with my partner!

ive started 24.5 , 25 and 25.4gr loads

Mine has a slower twist so my data only goes up to 87 gr bullets. Best load was 28.1gr of WC846. That's a surplus powder, with a burning rate near BL-C(2). - dan

I've just tried a load 85 BTSP but no good either at this stage.

1:10 is a tad too slow for a 6mm and 100 grain bullets I think, remembering how the 244 Remington wouldn't stabilize them when it first came out with it's slow twist but the 243 would with its faster twist .

I’m guessing you’re developing a load with what you have on hand, understandable.
I’ve loaded up to 85 grain flat based bullets for deer hunting, an 80 gr flat base crunched into a case full of varget killed one for us last year.
It’s a 200 yard max kind of cartridge imo and you’ll never see the advantage of a boat tail, not enough gas for 100 grains.

1:10 is a tad too slow for a 6mm and 100 grain bullets I think, remembering how the 244 Remington wouldn't stabilize them when it first came out with it's slow twist but the 243 would with its faster twist .

1-10 was the "fast twist" in the 243. 244 had 1-12. When they renamed it the 6mm Rem they changed the twist to 1-9. - dan

just revisiting this with 85 an 100.
say the twist is marginal? do i wanna be spinning them faster or slower in regards to less powder or more powder? = 100 gr versions.


ill re visit 85gr for a 'deer load' an be happy with 1.5 inch if i can find that again.

Ive ordered the 87gr Vmax and the 100gr interlock btsp - See where it ends up after some quick load development and re assses afterwards!

A normal 100 should stabilize in 1-10. Longer bullets (not necessarily heavier) require a faster twist. I think those 100's should work, and if they need a little tightening up, more velocity usually helps in that regard. im hoping just because i reached out to you that some wisdom shon my way an the gods aligned the target up better!

Today this happened.

i got an inch group with flyer from 85gr BTSP........... i started on longest coal and worked back-

but the 100gr Grand slam is showing some promise - but its a 'min' load , 23gr but it is a Shorter COAL that has bought it together!
Re testing in coming days, along side the 87 Vmax and 100gr BTSP.

See i am also trying to suss out if the gun likes a FB or a BTSP, or more to the point, if it IS not liking the BTSP models....

I would hunt this 3 shot group with the 85s.... and the 2x 100gr, well its looking great-

keep in mind 250max distances, 200 under prefered.

This is a slower barrel than yours, 85 to 88 jgr are about the heaviest i cwb get decent groups with. It really prefers 70-75 gr. Bullets. 8p gr Bergers work ok as well. - dan

I'm wondering if I should (after scratching the itch of course). Scrap the heavies and Deer in general and load Lighter rounds much faster an maybe use as a Spotlight rig for Foxes !

Deer are my thing obviously but I do a bit of Fox shooting and obviously stumble onto some Wild Dogs when deer hunting on properties...
I've got the 222 with a bunch of ammo now, looks like 50gr VMAX stuff off a reliable source-loaded.

We will most likely target shoot those with the young Lad .
Even after that the best I have is 50gr Speers an the velocity won't be Lightning - I'm thinking with something like a 60-65 even 70gr varmint bullet in 6mm, I should be able to get well into 3000-3200fps potentially!?!

Got a long barrel to help .

Dan, ive got this old info paper from reputable aussie gun writer..

what ya say about Varget in this for the 100gr or even the 85gr ??

im using the "2206H" currently.
some of the lighter stuff i was gifted is "2207" stuff...

just noticed the 2208 /varget down the bottom and i have the 87s coming and the 100s- might be worth loading some of those too?

at present my 100gr load is a min an i believe i will want more out of it for bullet performance-- ?

Not warm here either, just wet. We had the wettest June on record. High today of 20 I think. Ah well, beats 52 in Saudi or 47 in India I guess. - dan

Some projies arrived...
100gr BTSP is taking up alot of Case space.
I'm maybe even going to pull the few I loaded.
Loaded at 24grains and seated to Cannelure..... Compressed!!!

I was shooting the GS's at 23gr for accurate load-- it's proberly right on compressed but not as much...

The 87 gr VMAX also turned up -- might pull the btsp100s an replace with these.

I've shot the larger sambar deer with the 55gr VMAX in .224 , So I do t actually have much doubt they will Smoke Fallow deer in .243 fashion..

All the 6mm GS are sold out, but I've about 20-25 loaded an ready to either prove they are good or maybe they are just too slow!!!

I think realistically I should of got 90gr Speer hot cor and try out those 85 BTSP Speers.
