My local Hunting Partner & I were up for Antlered Mule Deer draws this year - they nixed that for all non-residents.
And they made the archery season in the areas we hunt for Mulies by drawing of a "special license" only - which of course nixes us on that one too.
Also nixed moose for non-residents.

Guess I'd better cash in my antlered Elk tag draw over there before they take that away as well...

Sucks.

Still trying to figure out what has happened to our wildlife populations across this province.

If it's similar to Manitoba, there's a certain group of people that decimate herds, night hunt, and hunt without permission. Then they claim that other people are killing too many animals and our NDP government takes away our licenses.

And just for the record, my wife, kids, bunch of friends and family are Metis and indigenous. I have no hate for the color of people's skin. I hate that they claim to be keepers of the land when they most definitely are ruining it for everyone.

Here in Kwebekistan , for the first time in decades we are now allowed 2 deer in certain southern zones as long as only one buck in the two. The 2 deer limit for Anticosti island has not changed. I don't know if this applies to non-residents as I can't find any info on that.

We see the same thing around our property in Manitoba.
A couple guys shot a deer within 50yrds of a cabin last year. Was at night and well within in the Clearwater provincial park.
They cut a couple quarters off and left the rest to rot in the ditch.
Cops are 30min away so they were never caught.
More than likely nothing would have come of it anyway.
Too many destroying it for everyone

Been out west fishing and all i see are w.t. every where. Heards of 12-15..
But the wmu changed limits to zero supplement w.t. doe..wtf
Makes no sense, deer population was big last year also.. smells fishy if ya ask me
Our whitetail are far from good. And hunting pressure is higher than it’s even been. They started the no supplemental tags in zones last year and I couldn’t be happier. Keeps the road hunting city people from blasting up ever deer they see.

It’s about time they have shut down some of these non resident draws. Between unregulated hunting, wolves and grizzly bears, hunting in Alberta sucks compared to 20 years ago.
I agree with you. Saskatchewan has good laws that favour resident hunters by not allowing Americans to hunt the southern half of the province, Canadian non-residence must apply for whitetail however, very much restricted to former residence. Mule deer, elk, moose and antelope are for residence only. The same should apply in Alberta.

Here's another note you can add to this, most ranchers/farmers are hunting more on their own land for meat now.
Cattle prices are so high that they can't or won't eat their own beef! Way more money selling their beef, and then hunt to fill their families freezers.
Which then means no one is allowed on their land to hunt as much.
No need to ask for permission, because you more then likely this year won't get it!

Sorry to hear this.

This isn’t good for our family, friends, economy and just the hunting community in general.

It’s easy to grow the animals with proper management. Shoot some sky coyotes “eagles” poison the predators give grants to land owners for habitat. Easily done, can be done conservatively.

Well that sucks.
We’ve been collecting priority and planning around other hunts for a few years, target was a 2027 draw. I feel like they could have gave a year notice and we could have pulled this year.
Disappointed in 5 years of sunk costs of planning and day dreaming.

I'm not surprised to see this. In 2024 the number of tags issued through draws in eastern Alberta were cut drastically (40-70% reductions). I used to hunt NE of Hanna and the numbers of animals we saw had dropped way off in recent years. 2023 was the last year I bothered to go out there. Between reduced numbers and land access getting harder and harder it just wasn't worth it any longer.

It sucks for the out of province guys who have invested years in building up priority for something special, only to get cut out near the goal.
