Perfect, was able to confirm my moose hunt will be a combo any bull moose and 3pt or better bull elk.
Sept 1-20 is going to be the best days of the year. Maybe only second to chasing mule deers across the grasslands in peak rut
We need a priority points system like AB
Points systems punish new hunters. For that reason alone I don't think we should. We need all the allies we can get, and finding out you need to wait 15 years for the CHANCE to draw a decent moose tag (Assuming it doesn't need 20 or 25 points by that time of course) is massively discouraging to people who might be interested in becoming hunters.
For established hunters its better. Especially older ones who might only get one more good draw (or even none) in their time left on this earth. They get in on the ground floor, and thus either have enough points in year 1 to get their tag or have the most points in future years. ONLY people with the most points would be fighting for the good tags, rather than anyone who can apply, and that list gets smaller every year as people get drawn and lose their points.
Ontario started people with up to 17 points IIRC. Imagine going to Hunter Ed only to learn it'll be 25 years before you MIGHT be eligible to draw a decent moose tag.
A points system would eliminate the issues I have seen with people putting in for a 4:1 odds tag for ten plus years without a draw and others getting it three out of five years. I have seen this with several hunting partners. Also, I know of two people who’s girlfriends drew huge odds sheep tags first year applying as new hunters. Of course both went out one day and didn’t like hunting so quit. Had that tag taken ten or twenty years to earn it would have been used.

That's a pretty convenient way to avoid addressing any of the actual points people are making.
A points system rewards long-term applicants, reduces the extreme luck factor, and gives people who've been applying for years some confidence they'll eventually draw. Instead of responding to those arguments, you just dismiss everyone who disagrees with you.
The current LEH system isn't fair when one hunter can go 15+ years without drawing while another draws multiple premium tags in a handful of years, that's pure luck—not fairness.
If you've been lucky enough to draw regularly, I can understand why you'd want to keep the system exactly as it is. But for the thousands of hunters who have invested years of applications with nothing to show for it, it's reasonable to think there are better options.
Disagree all you want, but pretending anyone who supports a points system "isn't worth arguing with" just makes it look like you don't have an argument.

The lottery system is very fair. Everyone has the same chance, every year. Hard to be more fair than that.
A points system isn't fair. It explicitly favors specific people - those with lots of points. You have a self interest in going to a point system, and that's fine. It's just not more fair.
A Points system is DEI for hunting (specifically the E).
