I fully agree with the investment thing.

But the SKS is a reliable, non-restricted semi auto for under $1000. Not exactly a lot of options at the price point.

And if the SKS never existed in Canada, if the SKS was JUST showing up on our shores in 2026, people would GLADLY pay $850 for one. Look at how much people were willing to pay for the T81 and those had problems like bent receivers and stocks that fell off!

The ONLY reason people balk at current prices is they compare it to historical prices. But have you looked at the price of steak or gasoline lately? Historic prices are just that, history...
 
The sks is still worth what the asking prices today are for them
No manufacturer could build a new one today for that
Ya the price sucks since it wasn’t that long ago they were 300 bucks for a real nice one
But like was said there isn’t much for semi autos anymore in the 1000 dollar range
Just look at lever guns, the junk Turkish ones are $1000 even, it wasn’t that long ago either when a decent Rossi was 600 bucks, the S&W M&P was 750 before they got axed and they were 10 times better then the 2500 crap we are getting now
Pretty soon no one will be able to afford anything and that’s just what the slimy Liebrals want

The most i will pay is 350$ to 400$ for one of these garbage rods
 
They are worth what people are willing to pay. Most importantly, just be thankful that we still have businesses willing to stay in business in this f'd up country and make them available. There have been a lot of businesses disappear the since A$$hole libs got into power. Quit #####ing.
 
i guess people never bought an SKS over the past 10 years. Russian SKSs have always commanded a higher price. $850 is probably exactly the value and cheap if anything. Russian SKSs are gone, the salt mines where these originated are Russian and unless they lift the ban on Russian imports we will never get anymore.

I'm sure it's great to feel superior to everyone else, but I'm sorry, you're just being ignorant.

I asked chatgpt to analyze the current sks market in canada, and it told me what any first year business student would know: government restrictions have increased demand while decrease in surplus stock have reduced supply resulting in continuously increasing prices. The average market rate today was $1200, though it told me i might find a better deal around $1000 by looking privately on GP or the EE on Gunnutz.

Thanks to toronto and quebec voters, those restrictions ain't going away, which means demand is only going to contue increasing. And military surplus being what it is, supply ain't likely going up any time soon. Anyone with a kindergarten level knowledge of economics will know therefore that the price today, ridiculous as it is, is likely better than the price will be tomorrow, or the next day.

Now, i suspect your put down wasn't based on economics. I suspect what you really meant was that you figure you're the cat's meow when it comes to being smarty mcshooter, and because you're so super smart about guns, you know better than all those other idiots exactly how low quality an sks is, and therefore how it's not really worth more than you'd pay for a decent cheeseburger. Well, setting aside what a laugh it is that someone would derive a sense of self-superiority from the posession of one of the most obvious facts out there - that soviet manufacturing was sh!t, let's just say this is in the same category of silliness as when I, as a carpenter, mock people for paying a million bucks for a house because i happen to know first hand that it's just a pile of drywall, insulation, and a lumber package that all cost $150k tops, and it didn't cost $850k to pay me to nail it all together. Sure, maybe technically i've got a point there, but that doesn't mean that we'll be finding houses for less than $200k any time soon.
