No MBP, you must have miss-heard as it is not possible that anyone on Gods green earth could consider one of those lovely little gems ugly.

Ps, they have always put me in mind of a whip snake...fast, elegant and very, very effective.

Lovely example there Win/64. Have seen a few at shows here on the west coast, usually in rough shape with pooched bores. Seems that ammo must have been super corrosive or the owners very neglectful.

A 1903 carbine is definatly on the top of my "list". I picked up a 1925 hi-velocity of 30-06 off the EE which is my first mannlicher and I am in love with it. It takes a little getting used to to work it fast because the bolt handle is so far forward, but once you get it know it, its incredibly fast and slick. My father knows a guy who has several of them, and is going to see if I might be able to talk him out of one but it is highly unlikely. The other option would be to find one with a shot out bore and rebore it to 7x57....now that would be a dream rifle for sure.

Les, one does NOT think about things like that....one hocks the family home and THEN spends time thinking up things to cover ones arse.
 
I just want to have one so I can put it in the rack in my office and look at it while I smoke a cigar and sip an absinthe or a good single malt scotch.

And shoot it at the range of course so that I can make the other guys jealous.
 
That would go against what they stand for! They are too wonderful to deny them of what they were made for. Hunting.
 
ive been told to just buy a new Steyr-Mannlicher.
theyre nice guns, dont get me wrong, but theyre a little too modernized IMO.
theres just something about the classic Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbines that the new ones cannot touch. its a real shame that they are so rare and usually have bad bores.

the Ruger M77 RSI is close but still has a ways to go. ive been thinking about picking one up and and having a smith install a butterknife bolt handle. its a shame they dont make set triggers for the M77s -- or do they? i havent been able to find one.

No offence to M77 owners. But there not even close to a Mannlicher
 
none taken, but unfortunately a Ruger or CZ is as close as most people are going to get to one in excellent firing condition unless they have several thousand to spend, including potential custom rebarreling, and then they probably wont hunt with it anyway :(

I've even stopped using my LE No.5 as my "rainy day" hunting rifle here in Southern BC. I'm using my 1895 GS for that role these days.

If I had an original, all matching M.S. 1903 carbine in VG condition, I have to admit I wouldn't hunt anywhere rough with it. :slap:
 
I had one for a while, but the bore was completely gone. It was too difficult to find a new barrel or re-bore so I sold it cheap. It really handled nice and looked good.
