We drew 2 tags this year in our family, so the 3 of us are headed down to look to bring a couple bucks home. It’s been 18 years, and will be my son’s first time hunting Pronghorn.

We are all super excited and looking forward to this adventure.

Is anyone else heading out this year? Any tips or tactics to share?

We do have access to a decent amount of land, looking to shore up a bit more before we head down and then do some scouting.

I will be heading down next week.
What zone are you in?

I’ve been trying to learn techniques to get close to goats. My son will be partnering with my wife for her tag for this trip. After some research it sounds like a cow decoy can help close the distance if the terrain doesn’t lead well to a stalk.

It turns out that our local shop had these on sale for half price, so I am the proud owner of a big red moo cow decoy, lol.

My sons rifle was giving him some consistency issues yesterday, I found the stock was flexing a significant amount, and had actually paint rubbed onto the barrel, we made the decision tonight to swap stocks and we will give it a try tomorrow. If not he will be trying my wife’s gun, to validate consistency with that.

The cow decoy has worked for many, just as others have used horses to get closer.
I tried the small buck decoy during the beginning of the rut, but I wasn't close enough to the females to draw the big buck in, or close enough to his territory. I ended up belly crawling into range over a small rise.
When I was hunting antelope, the local who took me out and arranged access for me also said that the coyote decoy worked well too...you had to be quick as they would come in fast! (Use a fawn in distress call with it)
I watched a video many years ago, where the guide put gunny sack cloth over him and his hunter and slowly walked into range of the target buck, who watched them approach, but wasn't alarmed, as the cloth broke up their human outlines. I thought that was a pretty good trick. Still need to try it myself.
