I am looking to buy a Winchester Select Deluxe Field or a Browning Citori 525or 625 field. Which is the the better choice for rec. shooting and hunting. The win. is about 500.00 less. I don't have a chance to shoot either one.

From the Winchester Select's that I have handled I consider them garbage. Yes, they are now under the same corporate ownership umbrella but they are not he same gun externally or internally. The Winchester Select is a far gry from the proven Citori design.

I would take a well used 325, 425 or a 525 anytime over a new Winchester Select O/U so spend the extra bucks, if you want a new one, and buy the Browning.

Now the question is, will the stock of the 625 Browning fit you better than the Winchester?

Stock fit is very important; if the gun does not fit you, you will shoot it poorly and will be taking it back to the gunsmith to get the stock to properly fit you.

Nice choice. Do not be in a hurry to get to the smith. If you do not know how, get some instruction on proper gun mount and put in a little dry practice. Then pattern it. Just point and shoot. With correct gun mount and correct fit, it should shoot where you look, If it does not shoot where you look, do not let a smith touch it before you determine if it your mount or the fit that is at fault. Good luck. Nice gun!

Why don't you look at either a Franchi or CZ o/u ? The Franchi was $1500 and the CZ about $1000 at Reliable. Berretta makes Franchi now and CZ has a pretty fair reputation as well. For the price I like the Beretta over the Browning anyway.

As you've seen Citori has got it hands down. I hope that it fits you well. I know SO MANY people with great brownings that they shoot well, but fit is horrible for me. Winchester fits me better, but I agree with whoever posted about the quality - all you have to do is hold the two in your hands and you'd know that you made the right choice... I shoot Berettas because the fit is good for me, which makes up the difference of what it would cost to get a Browning fitted. Have fun with it!

I ordered two DVD's from OSP shooting school to help me get started on the right track. As far as suggestions on other o/u's, I would have liked to try out as many as possible. Even then I could find myself in the same situation.Up till now I have been shooting a 870 Wingmaster.I never thought I shot it as well as my old 500 Mossberg. The more I read the more I realize how technical the shotgun sports are. We just went out and shot ducks! You gotta love this site.I should have the 625 in the next couple of days.

The franchi and cz are not even close to the Citori 625 when it comes to quality.

I spoke with Pud and Randy. They were more than willing to guide me through all my questions with no pressure to buy there. I think I have found my new gun guys.
