Time for another judge this bear pic.

Tell me what you know.

Picture367.jpg

a mature boar, will squares 7' or over.
the colour seams to be dark brown (or dirt on the lense).

With the head up like that its very hard to evaluate the skull. First impression is it looks good but I'd have to see it from the side or theres no way I'd shoot. I've seen fairly small bears posed just right that look quite big till you get a better look. Seeing him in person obviously helps a bunch. Like how far away is he really. That and you can't see anything of the hide, although not much of a concern if its late fall.

I think you just hit the nail on the head on what I was trying to figure out "doesn't look right" but just couldn't put my finger on it ... Also notice the broad shoulders, every blackie I've ever seen didn't have such broad shoulders.

ears are strange for a blk... Sure looks like a big sucker

Why did you not get out and put a 45 gal drum becide him for us LOL!!!

I cant tell from here other than hes a pretty healthy Black bear from there, likely fooling us and hes 5.5 foot 400 lbs, but will make the 500 lbs by fall.

Cant tell much I was hopping to see a stump but i cant.

If I am wrong I am wrong but it sure does not look like a griz to me but you folks on the west coast know more than my poor eyes can tell about them critters

Should add he looks bigger becsue i think hes just about to stand or pull back and run, and his paws up making him wider.

Ya i will say 400 !

Also too much meat on his bones for a felmale with cubs so I call male.

I thought you were throwing us a curve ball for the size but i see the budds are only starting on the trees so it must be spring.

Thanks for the picture lots to be learned from them

Impossible to make a good judgement from just that one view. Looks very average, maybe square about 5.5 feet, as has been suggested, but about 250 pounds.

I f you were looking for a 6ft+ bear, and you shoot that one, you are going to be disapointed! :)

I'd say it's in the 5ft area, and he sure ain't no 400-500 lb bear! Probably 200-250.:)

Am I the only one who thinks in skull measurements? :p

I'm going to guess 17.5 - 18 inches -- as the ears are a ways apart, and there does seem to be a bit of a crease forming down the center of the skull. This is definitely a bear to pay attention to and try to get a better look. It *might* be a P&Y bear, but it would take a sideways pose to get a better idea. It definitely isn't B&C material though.

first of all EXELLENT photo....angle and distance etc etc sure make ya look hard at it..and from this angle...and this photo sure makes ya guess..

first thought it is a grizzly..the characteristic hold of the head, the ears do not look like a black bears, they are at least at 45 degree..indicating a fairly large skull, could be just a meat head but looks like some distance between the ears.."dinner plate " forhead..some creasing to the forehead indicating muscle mass...doesnt look like an OLD bear so..young grizzly or BIG black bear...the hair on first "blush " has a brownish tinge..grizzled brown of a dark grizzly....from each side and below the ears this animal has some indication of a big neck..the muzzle is also strangly colored for a black bear..not the black or golden of a typical black bear one more reason I am thinking grizzly..

Small bears do not have large necks....

so young grizzlly med dark brown witha goodly sized pumkin...weight needs a side photo however I believe he is larger than MR Gatehouses prediction over 350....9stupid guess from front photo..but lol:p
