Another SKS delay update from Cabelas/S.I.R.

Well, I got another e-mail from the kind lady at Cabelas/S.I.R. notifying me that there will be another delay.

Here it is:

“I just received word today from our supplier that our shipment of Russian rifles has been delayed until sometime in July. It is not surprising, but I thought I'd give you a heads up and if you wanted to pass along the information, that would be fine with me.

The first shipment we expect is 600 guns, but they are already ALL SPOKEN FOR and we are taking backorders now on the second shipment. We do not expect the 2nd shipment to arrive before LATE 2008.

We fill the orders in the order that we received them (by date) when the merchandise arrives in stock. If we only get 300 in the 1st shipment, the first 300 that were ordered will be filled.

I think they have already updated the SIR web site to say July; at least it was going to be done today since we just found out now.

Hope things are well.”


So, we have a bit more of a wait.

At this point I’d be more surprised to hear they had them, and they were ready to ship.

Oh well, I’m not in a rush, so it really doesn’t matter to me.

For anyone who is busting at the seams to get ahold of their rifle(s) remember that Cabelas/S.I.R. has no control over when they take possession of their shipment. They are waiting on the importer and Customs clearance.

They will be more than happy to finally receive them so they can fill our orders.

In the meantime, stock up on ammo!

The shipment has to travel through other third party counties before getting onto the ship. This is what is the hold up, as told to me by the importer, Bell.

thats good that there is another separate shipment in later 2008 .
 
The orders from SIR/Cabelas will most likely be the same as Frontiers, I called Marlin last night and he told me hopefully early July but he can't make any promises. I ordered mine in Febuary and bought a bunch of ammo like alot of people and we'll just have to be patient. At first it drove me crazy but now i'm not as impatient. I wouldn't bother canceling any orders because if there are this many delays now they'll probably not be many more coming for a long time.
 
I suspect those are forgeries, either newly produced in China or Russia. Production delays is what it is. When I was in service 20 years ago AK47's where hard to find already. I doubt russkies stashed stockpile of SKS's - makes no sence to me, we are talking more than half a century old $hit that has had no value for so long. Doesn't make any diffence for 169$ but still I'd be suspicious.
 
I have never heard of SKS forgeries. Never heard of the Russians making new SKS's either. New Norinco's yes, but not new Russians.

SKS's remained in production for years and were produced in large quantities by Russia, Yugoslavia and China. Though after only a year or two after being produced the SKS was getting overshadowed by the AK-47, so tons of these rifles were made and many were just stockpiled as the the use of the AK, M-16 and other select fire weapons became more popular.

lol ... yeah , forge a $169 rifle ... thats a good one .

easier to photocopy $170 worth of dollar bills .
 
I think the Russians would be stockpiling any weapons they can find. If they can't use them, a 3rd world country wanting a leadership change could!
 
The russians have long retained there obsolescent weaponry, pass it to there reserves then militia, then store it or give it away for political favours. I'm sure you could google earth some of there airfields that have ww2 t34's dug in as pillboxes

It makes no sense to you as you don't know that Russians don't tend to throw out stuff like the West.

And I have seen documentaries over the years where they have huge warehouses still packed to capacity with all sorts of arms...some even dating back to WW1.

As others have suspected I wouldn't be surprised to learn that these are from a satellite state once owned by the Soviets.

As for not having value, well an SKS, or an AK still work at what they were built for, and are battle proven.

Also what I would love to get my hands on are the machines used to make the Russian SKS. :)

i suspect the tools you are after are in china when the russian moved tula factory there but i dont know for sure what they did with the tools from izhevsk factory , i heard that might have been moved to east germany .

I could be a very good guess. There was a rumor on a street that Ukraine has opened and started to sell weapons from one of those warehouses (forget what town it was located in, but close to Kiev)- could be from there..
