I am very excited! Last night I finally got to pick up two Colt 1911's British Contract guns that I paid for in March! Thanks to the Ontario CFO is was only 8 weeks!

Anyway two 1911 British contract guns in 455 one took two years to register as it was a "bring back" stayed in a kit bag for 70+ years then found by accident.

Pics and more details up tonight.

Just a bit of an update on my 1914-production Model 1911 (which actually kind of highjacked the very first page of this thread .... )

I finally got around to ordering a Colt Factory Letter on it, which arrived yesterday.

The letter confirms that it was sold to the Government of Canada, and was included in a shipment of 1000 pistols on October 31, 1914, to H.W. Brown of Quebec, Canada, the government's purchasing agent for its acquisition of a total of 5000 of these commercial-production pistols in 1914 for WWI service ......

As is common with these pistols, mine bears no Canadian Government inspection or ownership marks - because many (if not most) of the total were re-sold to commissioned officers. As previously reported, my pistol is documented as the personal sidearm of Major. W.A. Mitchell of the Canadian Army Service Corps, who served on the Front, ultimately as Officer Commanding No. 5 Company, Divisional Train of the 2nd Division, Canadian Expeditionary Force ....

Grant: Now THAT'S a 1911.:dancingbanana:
Yes, definitely a "true" 1911 .... mind you, I wouldn't want to seriously compete with it - very fine sights and a very heavy trigger pull (although that was an intentional design feature, I understand, since they were expected to be used on horseback a lot, at least in the original military application) ....

Well here are my latest finds. I actually purchased these in late March. Two Colt 1911 British Contract guns first up shipped November 2, 1917 to London Armoury Co.

The second gun has some pitting with areas that are like new. This happened from sitting hidden in a kit bag for half a century. Missing the grips. Clip is like new. Shipped September 16, 1916 to London Armoury.

Both are in 455 of course. You guys will cry if I tell you how much I paid (gun show find)
