shipping ammo

Some shippers (eg Canada Post) will not take it.

Canpar does, and they are good to deal with.

If you are selling it, you obviously need to get the PAL information from the buyer as well.

Hey guys...

I tried to ship some rifle ammo via DHL today...

I got there with it all boxed up... and the dude behind the counter said he couldn't ship it because I had never taken a dangerous goods course... and I didn't have any stickers... Is there any merit in this... or is he FOS? If this is true... I have received LOTS of ammo that hasn't been stickered!!!

Doug... have you shipped with Can Par from K-town?

Anyone have this happen before?

Thanks! I could not recall the wording that they use on the stuff, but that is it for sure, "consumer goods."

Shipping Small Arms Cartridges

Never call it ammunition for the purpose of shipping. Under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act ammunition also includes Explosive and Incendiary shells ie: stuff for Artillery. Hunting and sporting Small Arms Cartridges are mentioned in the Act and are indeed considered consumer commodity products and do not require any special requirements for shipping. Most shipping companies do not know the difference, and if you call it ammunition it does fall under the Act. It’s all in the way it’s written in the TDG Act.

OK I'm still confused.
I need to get a quote to ship some ammo. Do I quote it as a dangerous good?
Do I declare it a dangerous good when shipping but only write LQ-CG on the box?
Can somebody lay out the process step by step and sticky it?
