No bolt and bolt carrier included?

I am with you mebuis....

to many people take it for granted that the bolt is modular piece and can be swapped willy nilly.... it is to the ar15's credit that the design allows 80-85% of bolts to match up with the barrel.

BUT, someone is going to get hurt oneday and have nothing but themselves to blame....

Hold on folks. Many who sell their uppers hardly have enough rounds through them for the bolt and barrel to mate. Not that many know this or care, they're just being cheap.

Get off it..headspacing is not an issue in AR's.
I've seen an assembly video from a factory where they had a damn skid full of bolts/carriers and they just picked em out blindly and threw them into rifles.
I've swapped tons of uppers with the same bolt and never had an issue,as many others have.

All right Gentlemen, (oh and Wess, sorry bud :D)

I have a couple comments and a question for those that are learned among you.

First off, I am one of those individuals who has sold uppers with out a bolt/carrier groups for $650.

However, for the most part, My builds are with all new parts, and I even have new complete bolt/carrier/charge handle groups for them. What I have found, is that including such, pushes the price up around the $800 mark, and that the Items simply do not move. However remove the bolt, and reduce the price accordingly, and the items sell. So please enlighten me to whom may we attribute the miserly behavior to now??

Second. I recently purchased a DPMS TiN coated bolt & carrier group off the EE. It has about 100 rounds on it. Are you trying to tell me, that the 100 rounds fired on this particular bolt/carrier makes it a poor choice for one of my personal builds??

I look forward to any and all informed comments.

Respectfully yours

AbH

Because they can re-use the bolt carrier on other uppers they have.

They really should include the bolt though due to headspacing and locking lugs. The locking lugs tend to get worn to match the upper that it's used in. If they take the bolt and use it in another upper, there is more chance of broken lock lugs on the bolt, which doesn't help anybody.

So, bolt and upper should go together. The carrier can be swapped in and out.

Cost is another thing, if they exclude the carrier and bolt, you need to factor in another ~$300 on your purchase to use the upper.

Please educate me why most selling their AR uppers without the bolt and bolt carrier:confused:

Thank you!

and that's the reason why people selling their uppers but not their bolt and bolt carrier?
Because i have an M4 bolt/carrier,and i'm not giving it up.
The rigs around here won't see the kind of wear to even make it a factor.
We are not swapping battle worn rigs. Most of them have less than 1-2K rounds through them, some are not even fired.

I disagree. Headspacing IS an issue with AR's that is why bolts and barrels should be kept together. Installing a used bolt on a different used barrel is not a good idea.

Top builders like Noveske, MSTN, JTAC fit the bolts to their barrels!!!

They fit for accuracy..
I've never seen an AR blow from anything except for squibs and overloaded ammo.
Show a few examples of headspacing being to blame and i'll eat my foot.

The army no longer makes an effort match bolts to weapons. Rare to get the same bolt each time the rifle is drawn from stores.

There may still be some units that do keep track but I doubt they're in the majority.

Can you please explain to me why they would take the bolt out of the gun in the first place?

Has anybody here personally had "head space" problems when swapping AR parts? I never have in almost 20 years.

Thats not to say it doesn't/can't happen, I was just curious if anybody has had problems first hand with AR-15 headspace.
