10/22 issue

Hey I posted a thread about a week ago about obstruction in my 10/22. The bristled end of a bore cleaner is stuck in my barrel. I cant get it out. Who should i take it to to get it out. A gunsmith or a machinist? Or Is it even worth doing should i just go get a new barrel ?
 
I'd just go to Canadian tire and buy a wooden dowel.
Spray some wd40 in the bore and give it a whack.

It can't be that stuck
 
it'll be easier to work with if you take the barrel off- how to do this is in your manual- a barrel is typically a hundred or more- a dowel is about 2-3 bucks maybe- take barreled action from the stock, and you should see 2 hex bolts in a v block-remove those, andthe barrel shoud come off- unless ruger has changed things- but you don't have to- just a whach with a hammer with the dowel up against brush should do it- the dowel shoul be a few thou under the bore diameter
 
Try whacking it the same direction it was going when it got stuck. That should make it go easier... Lube it up, and don't be afraid to hit it fairly solidly.

Is it a bronze, or plastic brush? Not that it makes a huge difference at this point...

Really, it can't be THAT stuck. A gunsmith or machinist is going to do the same thing - put a dowel or brass rod down the bore and smack it with a hammer.

If it's plastic and all else fails - take a wire coat-hanger, straighten it, and heat it to glowing red with a torch... the obstruction will be melted away in rather short order.
 
Surely it can't be that stuck. Were you trying to clean it with a .30cal bristle? If not, get a long, hard stick and poke it out. I had a similar problem with a bristle getting caught. I used a very small metal rod and poked it out. Didn't ruin the rifle.

Hmm...considering the bore gets smaller at the muzzle end of the barrel, I would personally try sticking the dowel from the muzzle end and giving it a whack that way.

OK, for real now, a wooden dowl will tend to crush at the end and may help the stuck out even more...so with the barrel separated from the receiver(easy to do) try the wood first but you may have to graduate to something more solid (plastic,brass,alum ect)
 
Ya its ####ed i just went out and got a 3/16 steel rod and a wood rod. The wood just shattered when i hammerd it and the steel rod bent. Tryed the wd40 first too.
 
It's seriously stuck that bad???????? Man, what did you do??????? Someone here will help you out, hold tight, all is not lost...

I thought all rifle barrels were designed that way...I guess maybe not. :rolleyes:

I shot off an email to Ruger and see if they'll answer to satisfy my curiousity. When I push my bore brush through the bore, it always feels a little bit tighter towards the muzzle end, that's why I thought it had a taper.
