Sniper calibres?

As stated, there a small, less than 1% usage of .338LM and .50 BMG by police snipers.

223 is much more likely to wound on an off shot.
308 is going to hit you so much harder you won't be popping back up.

"...suspect that Remmy sells more police models through dealers..." Very likely. Adding the word 'tactical' adds to the price and aids the marketing department. Used to be 'Police'.

Please someone jump on my throat if I am wrong.
For a military application, one of the 'benefits' of the .223 is it will likely wound an enemy soldier, then requiring extra resources to attend to the injuried. A larger calibre may flatten a foe, killing him. No extra people needed to evacuate, no evacuation helicopters, no beds filled in hospital, etc...
In a Police application, I would think that if they are going to shoot someone, they intend to kill. They wouldn't want the person injured and able to cause further harm to others or whatever......

Stop it already!

The only resources tied up with dealing with enemies our army has wounded is, ours.

Nope

This one gets tossed out every now and then, I believe it was the result of a staff study somewhere. No actual trooper, or good commander wants to wound. A wounded guy might just get another shot, a dead guy won't. It also assumes that the other side cares enough to recover and treat their wounded.

As to the .223 the .308 puts twice or more kinetic energy on the target at any given range. When a police sniper fires, they want to make sure the target is down at any given engagement range. So bigger works out better.

I stated that as well, the police want the suspect down.
