Splitting the brass

man i would have the barrel looked at, there is quite a difference between 5.56 and 7.62 its like throwing a hoddog down a hall way and also go buy a lotto ticket cause you are the luckies person I know.

This has to be a joke the bolt wouldn't even pick up a 223..

Edit: Pants...are you sure you are shooting an SKS?

i would tend to agree WE'RE BEING HAD- the bore sizes are different, the casings are different, and i doubt if the sks could fire 6mm OUT OF BATTERY- for those who don't know the 223 is 45 mm long, the sks is 39mm - your BOLT WON'T CLOSE, and if it did, well, we all know what an out of battery fire looks like= there's nothing left- except for a damaged shooter

So, now?

Well, how's the chamber now? does it have marks or other scratches or is the chrome lining still intact?
You escaped unscathed so I guess the SKS design can be credited for your actual well-being. If that rifle is still in good operating condition, I don't see why you couldn't shoot it with some good ComBloc milsurp 7,62x39mm .
Do yourself a favor and PM me your address: I'll send you one or two boxes of proper ammo so you can see what shooting an SKS really is.

dont look at it from length point of view , the bolt will close due to the .223 is approx .5 mm bigger at the shoulder so it will be deformed abit.

i agree it got to be a joke cos i dont know how he pass his PAL when he should be checking cal of the ammo to the rifle.

Okay, will a SKS chamber a .223 cartridge? You bet. The bolt whacks the cartridge into the chamber and scrunchs up the mouth.

Will it fire?

You bet!

Will the case get stuck in the chmaber?

You betcha!

:dancingbanana:

WOW, how in the hell did you ever get a PAL issued to you?

I honestly hope your nowhere near any of the ranges that I am, ever.

Twice I've seen 5.56 fired out of a 7.62x39 AK, so it is possible. Both times it was just a pop and the top cover blew off leaving the shooter wondering what happened.

I just tried it with some fired cases. The first one needed to drop the bolt twice to squeeze it in a bit, but the second case fell right in.
I video'ed myself doing it, and will put up video in a moment.

Did you actully go out side and try this  If you did man you have a big pair. or you are on :onCrack:

Sorta...

I went outside, and dropped a .223 round into an SKS chamber. Slammed the bolt home and sure enough it closed with a good whack, and stuck int he chamber.

So I rammed the cartridge out with a cleaning rod.

I inserted a primed case in the chamber and whacked the bolt home, and then pulled the tirgger. Sure enough, the primer popped.

I have no doubt that if I was to use a loaded cartridge, the primer woudl ignite the powder, the bullet would rattle down the tube and the jammed and mostly unsupported case would split and stick.:)
