Any new plans for the season
Just wondering if anyone is going to try something new this year during the deer season. This year I'm going to put some serious effort into setting up stands and hunting from my arse rather than my boots. Also, going to try decoys for the first time. With the price of fuel going any distance is tough so no more than a quarter tank away from the house. The choice is a couple of long trips or many outings around here.

Are fuel costs changing any or your plans ?

I bought a 12 foot travel trailer and plan to halve the amount of miles I drive with out reducing the number of evenings and mornings I can watch whitetail scrapes. Comfort and longer time spent afield were my motives as the trailer cost wont be recouped in fuel savings for a long time.

I took the plunge and turfed my VXIII's off my rifles and put on period optics.
....yes, I've lost my mind.

I am also hoping to try hunting old school with some different guns this fall. Trouble is which one to take.

Cost of fuel has effected my plans for the last couple years at least.

With starting a new job, I don't have any holidays this year, so it will only be a couple of weekend trips.

Price of fuel will force me to plan farther ahead for the big trips (next year) but hopefully local weekend trips will pay off.

Fuel prices haven't changed anything for me, but hunting with a 12 year old has. Suddenly burning $100 worth of fuel for a duck seems to make sense. Somehow I got roped into a deal with one of my son's friends as well, if he got his Hunter's safety I'd take him along too. If anything I'll be burning more fuel than before, and alternating trucks with adult friends less.

I would be happy to help you out and take those nasty VXIIIs off your hands for you!

I always hear the arguement from people that don't smoke that they have extra money to spend on fuel and such for hunting so I figure since I don't do crack and meth that I have a spare 50k a year to spend on hunting! :D

Nope, no changes this year. Just keep shooting lots and hitting the field, woods or mountains whenever I can. Your idea about sitting on your arse is a good one though if you want a big whitetail. I finally resigned myself to that tactic a couple years ago and it's paid off big time. Thankfully that's the only critter I have to sit for as it uses up all my patience.

found a not too shabby 200 yard load for my muzzleloader

i'll be mainly hunting weekends, because ill be working to make up for time lost to recovering from surgery. but i plan to try out a few new areas near Cache Creek, Princeton, Merritt and Kamloops. really looking forward to it, as my buddy also wants to come along. that'll halve my fuel costs, since he's paying 50% of the fuel. :D

Well we (my wife and I) put a 20' trailer up on our property. We use to hunt a 1/2 hour south (on crown land of the property) we purchased.so it takes an extra 25 minutes to get to our property which is 1.5 hours from home.Staying in the trailer sure beats racing like hell to get up to the crown land hopeing nobody claimed your spot and then trying to stay awake on the hour+ drive home.We might put up a couple of deer decoys in the swamps,as well I will be putting up a couple trailcams in the next few weeks as I should actually have time for hunting this year as I am probabley laid-off as of Nov.1.

I only hunt 1.5hrs away from home, and I drive a Toyota Yaris, so gas is never an issue. Once again I won the doe lottery, so I can take both a doe and a buck.
For the first time ever I put out a salt block (a month ago) and also built a 30gal. corn feeder, which is feeding a big black bear  , who also decided to empty the drum by wacking the spinner plate ( and bending the crap out of it) and making all the corn empty out. Since it was deer I was after, I guess I will be driving up to the woods to move it to another part of the farm I hunt on, and hopefully attract some deer. I also purchased a Trail Cam, which is a lot of fun. Got some great pics of the bear I been feedin.

I am only going to use 3 short range rifles this fall.

I am parking my 300RUM & 375RUM rifles for the rest of the year and will be hunting with my Marlin 1895GS 45-70, T/C Contender carbine with a wildcat 308 Bellm barrel (300 Savage velocities) and my 45-70 barrel and last but not least my 20" barreled Puma M92 in 454 Casull... :D

If I can't get within 200 yards I am going to let it walk away...

Hmmmm...I been thinking of getting a lever and just cannot decide which one. That 454 sounds nice, but I've heard as many good as bad things about it. How you like that Puma??
