Blaser

Arrowhead showed me some fancy work when we were shooting 10" x 10" steel at 500m with his Blaser in 6BR.
He could hit 5 on 5 in less than 10 sec. He could actualy see the bullets going into the white paper at that range in his Nightforce at 32X since the 6mmBR also had a brake on. Just like a 22 LR and the action is lightning fast. If I ever got one of those I would try a 243 Win with 115 DTAcs or VLDs.
Happy shooting. The 5-25X 34mm tube S&Bs are very sweet scopes also but very expensive. They would also be heavier I'm guessing. Another comment on the mount system is the shortness of it. Not enough distance between the rings. Are you getting any more barrels for it? I wonder what the std. 243 bbl twist is. I heard you can order custom from Blaser if you're willing to wait.

That's some impressive shooting; I want to get very good at 100m and then work my way up to such distances. Was this at Club de Tir Pionnier? I don't know of any other long range shooting ranges in Quebec. Maybe you could point me out to some.

One note regarding the supposed flimsyness of the mount; on the LRS2's webpage, looks like the pic of the rifle they provide is exactly as I have it set up (minus the forward angle on the mount). Why would they have it set up that way if it didn't work? Here's the pic I'm talking about:

Maybe Arrowhead set it up incorrectly or something? I'll cross my fingers and see what happens, although it'll be a disappointment if a 500$ mount fails :mad:

Lol, I won't be making any big purchases (more barrels, bigger scopes) anytime soon, since this purchase pretty much dried me out. I have to feed myself and go out too, ya know! Besides, like I said, I like shooting with my buddy, and it's more fun if we have the same caliber, so we can use each other's ammo.

Just got the final piece of my first firearm: a Parker Hale Bipod, like the Canadian & British army uses! Pics below:

Redman, I love your setup. How is the Schmidt & Bender treating you? I'm really interested in the schmitty. Just wish someone @ my range had one so I could look through it. Awesome setup!

It's treating me well, I guess, but I never really had a chance to compare it to many other scopes (since it is my first rifle). The only other ones I've tried are my friend's old Tasco 2-7x and a Bushnell...

For now, it works as it's supposed to, so that's really all I can say; very bright optics - I have to wear sunglasses if I'm shooting targets with a white background (paper) on a sunny day. Give me some specifics of what you'd like to know and I'd be glad to answer!

I've always wondered what the headspace and throat are like on those Blasers...

I was wondering if you could go back would you want more magnification and go with the 16X or is 12X plenty? Would you want Illuminated reticle? Reason I ask is that I only want to buy once and cry once. So any input is appreciated. Thanks for your Help. Rob:)

I know, I know... A Pelican or something is in order here, but I dropped quite a bit of funds on the kit, didn't have enough for a 400$ case! Yup, it was pretty tight, but I figured you only live once and I wanted a setup that would last me till I get too old to handle firearms. Besides, if I did get some uber case, I'd have to either get a cheaper scope or another bipod; I think my decision makes sense.

It was tough to find all the parts, needless to say (except for that case lol). Regarding ammo, it's all factory match (looking to start reloading), mostly Federal GM, which my rifle seems to love. Case in point, I had to re-zero my scope today at 100 metres (scope adjustment clicks are 1cm@100m), and here's the final five shots on zero below.

To get an idea of scale, the circle is one inch across. I know this is the internet, but take my word that the big hole is four shots and the smaller one was a miss (held breath for too long when waiting for wind to settle). In all fairness though, there wasn't much marksmanship here, since I used a sandbag to hold up the rear stock. I hope to be able to do this without one someday.

Silverado, how could I measure the headspace/throat? It's tricky to get a ruler/caliper in the chamber...

Radical - it is 16x - see the pics in the first post of the thread. ;) I don't know if the illuminated reticle's price would be justified for me, since I mainly shoot during the day at light coloured targets, so I wouldn't be able to make much use of it. Even at dusk, the contrast between the target's white background and the black reticule is enough distinguish between the two. Now, if I were shooting something darker, that would be a different story I guess.

Holy necropost, Batman! I prefer chronicling my precision shooting misadventures in my original thread to keep things all in one place. :D

So, I just made my first sixty reloads and tested them out last weekend. Conditions were absolute s**t because I fired in constant light rain in a not so waterproof jacket after a month and a half of no trigger time. Wind was cooperative though, light breeze coming straight at me.

I'll tell you right off the bat that I couldn't duplicate the Federal Gold Medal group above... Without further ado, here are the results (all groups are six shots)!

I see promise in the 43.0 - 43.5 gr area, so I'm planning to go in 0.1gr increments in that range to find the sweet spot. Next will come neck turning which might help accuracy further.

I'd love some feedback as to how I can improve on the results, and whether the charge I saw promise in is indeed the right one to fine-tune... Gotta say my foray into reloading has been pretty amusing thus far with all these rediculous contraptions I've had to acquire over the past year - more to come!

Set-up was fine, the saddle mounts have a problem with big heavy scope, just to give you an example a shoot a Swarovski 6-24x50 for over a year on my LRS2 .308 without any problem, one month after a got my NF 8-32x56 a broke 2 times the screws that holds the rings to the mount and be carefull not to bang to hard your scope sideways because you might loose your zero (.25" at 100y) And just to prouve my point, the new Tactical 2 are equiped with picatiny rail, its much stronger and you can install your rings further apart

I got a right hand bolt with left hand bolt face (eject on the left side) with this configuration I could built myself a nice little bag to cath my brass (just like to one on AR (bag can hold 30 .308 brass before I have to empty it)


Scope is a NF 5.5-22x56 Zero stop with NP-R1
Best group so far with this one is .370" 5 shot at 200 yards, average 5 shot groups are between .450" and .650" at 200 yards

Yeah, I remember your bests from that other thread asking about this rifle...

How much did your scopes weigh (both the Swaro and the NF)? Mine's about a kilo. I avoided NF & Harris, wanted to keep it all European.

I actually had problems with the QD mount, but it had nothing to do with the rings, more with the base as the QD levers were working their way loose after each shot, no matter how tightened they were. After a warranty service fiasco with the dip####s at R. Nicholls/FN Sports, it was repaired and works flawlessly, even after having my rifle (not in a hard case) fall off my back seat and onto the floor after I slammed my brakes...

Speaking of brakes, where did you get your muzzle break? Did you require threading? Or is it clamp-on? Who did the threading for you?

Last, and certainly not least, I would really appreciate any updates on the Mansonville range... I've asked for an update from the "other" board, but no answer. I know you're "in the loop" - could you please share? :)

NF NXS = 34oz

Local machine shop did the work, my barrel was threated from factory

Only news I got from Mansonville is that the SQ ask for some minor modification of the shooting line, you can see the sky from the extreme end of it (no sky law in Quebec), the guys will need to raise it a little bit...
