:D

She just arrived yesterday from Gunnar. I love it already and I haven't even shot it!

Model 28-2

It shows some holster wear but I think that gives it some character.

Don't mind the dust on the barrel :D

Now the question is, which grips should I put on it. I find these ones a bit small and I have a feeling my middle knuckle is going to take a beating. I always liked the look of the S&W target grips. I'll be shooting mostly .38 Special. Any suggestions? Will any set of N-frame grips work for my gun?

What do those do and where do you get them? Never heard of 'em.

They allow you to get a better grip while retaining the original grips. Some people point shoot better with the original wood grips. In CCW applications the original grips means a thinner grip, that is less likely to stick to your clothing than rubber grips ie. your revolver prints less.

Google Tyler T grip, they are a US company but they ship to Canada. I have them on my SW 17 as well as my SW 12 snubby.

I am sorry but I do not remember. You call Herrett, tell them what you want, send them an outline of your hand, and they make the grips. These grips aren't inexpensive but they are great! Regards, Richard:)

S&W Model 28

You've no doubt got yourself a great shooter there....

+1 on the Tyler t-grip if you want to go with the existing grips. Have one on an old S&W .455

Another option for a nice comfortable grip is the Pachmayr grippers.... Good to go to fit different frame sizes. N frames [top] to J frame [bottom]:

Congratulations on your 28-2--they're great revolvers! Without a doubt my favourite N frame grips are Ahrends "Retro Target" grips. They have the classic look of S&W target grips but fit me much, much better. They're a little slimmer side-to-side and don't "flare" as much at the bottom. I've got them on my 28-2 and I could not be happier with them.

Nice N frames. I have a 4" 28 that I enjoy a great deal (among numerous other N frames). The Herrett stocks are great, but if you have smaller hands, you may want to look at the Roper style rather then the Jordans, I find they fit much, much better. - dan

Why? Herrett makes each set of Jordan Troopers, individually, to fit the outline of your hand.

jaybird, the checkered Target Grips are what I call "Cheese Graters".

Regards,

Richard:)

S&W 28/29 grips

the S&W 28 is a fantastic gun...
here is mine with it's "bigger sibling"...
bought the 28 from Gunnar as well (excellent experience by the way)...
In the pictures you can see my preference for grips, they are Hogue smoth laminated, oversized and fingergrooved. This are the best feeling handgun grips I have ever experienced and they look great as well...

Wow, thanks for all the replies! :D

Right now I'm leaning towards the Pachmayr Grippers, but I'll hold off on a decision until I actually shoot the thing :)

Another question though - I am new to all things S&W. Why are the stock grips that I and PaveHammer have called Magna grips?

Please keep the suggestions coming :D

mod 28

not sure what Magna grip means, however one thing is for sure: this are the lousiest handgun grips I ever hold in my hands.
I changed them right away for Hogue laminated wood grips with S&W medallion. The Hogue grips are not only beautiful and extremly comfortable, they also improved the accuracy very dramatically!
My best buy in grips so far...

Hey Polaris, those aren't Hogue Grips. Hogue grips are attached to the gun by a screw through the base of the grips. They look like AJAX grips with the S&W medallion. Have these on my Colt Python with the Colt medallion.
