I was wondering about this, since i have heard before that the eotechs are tuned to work with the dimensions of a m16/ar15 rifle for things like eye relief and etc. so I wondered where should one be mounted on a cz858? Would it be best mounted on a rail on the rear sight, or should it be mounted on a rail on the front hand guard?

Or does it matter that much, or is it a personal preference thing?

My understanding is that with the holographic sights, it doesn't matter WHERE it is, as long as you can see the red dot (or crossharis, or whatever) - Once the sight is zeroed to your desired point of impact, you can be holding the rifle upside down and shooting with your left eye, using a mirror mounted on the floor, but as long as you can put the reticle on target, you are good to go.

The Eotech is a pretty big sight for the CZ858. You might want to consider something a little smaller. The Micro aimpoint above is a good choice, the Dr Optik or Fastfire might also work better.

who makes Dr Optik?

Burris-Fastfire (Chevrolet-Camaro) ;)

The Dr.Optic and Trijicon versions claim to be parallax free, wheras the FastFire is only free up to 50m (but it's half the cost so you gets what you pay for). If I were going to spend more I'd love a Micro Aimpoint.

I am liking the barrel mount option but it's an area that isn't being explored too much.

I've already ordered a new rail, one that I feel will add a more "Factory" look rather than the crude mount I've created.

There is a lot of trial and error with sight heights and rail combinations; hopefully more people will start trying different combos and we can find out what works and what doesn't :)

I feel it solves the following:
-No removing/re-installing of the optic
-Solid platform (metal on metal)
-Being able to keep the iron sights
-Being able to see the irons as well as the dot (Co-Witness)
-Proper cheek weld for both RDS and irons ;)

Are there any cons?

G37, that is a nice rig. Where did you get the fastfire with that protective mount? What is the battery life like on that thing. Does it seem tough enough for a VZ58/CZ858?
