I don't know if you Canadian guys can have them or not, but I just bought 2 Century Arms Golani Rifles from J&G Sales in Arizona for 6 Bills a pop. The Century Galils are not top quality, but all the reviews that I have seen on them have been mostly positive, and at $599.00 a rifle; you can't even get a crappy AR-15 for that, and this thing is .223 AND has a Gas Piston gas system. If you need a cheap .223 platform to use up stocked ammo, then this may be the best way to go. Just FYI. I was told that they have a few more at this price.

I'll be happy to give a range report after I get them in; should be next week sometime. I'm already considering getting them duracoated, and replacing the rear sights before taking them out, but as soon as I think they are ready to rock 'n roll; I'll let you guys know. Too bad about the restriction, at these prices they won't last long, and at these prices, who cares if they are not "the best." They are decent, and can be made much better fairly cheaply. From what I understand, the finish and rear sights are the only real weak points. I understand that some early serial numbered Century Galils had some receiver problems, but I asked the guy if these were early or late production, and he said they were in the 3000 series, so all should be well.

P.S. They have steel 35rd. Galil Mags at 20 bucks a pop as well. That's 15 dollars less than I've found them elsewhere. I bought 20 of them. I don't know what brought on this fire-house sale at J&G, but I'm liking the savings. I had 2200 bucks to pick up 2 .223 platforms, and this way I'm going to come out with a few hundred left over for...BEER? I feel like a kid in a candy store today. ;)

If these things are legalized, I'll have to get one!

Its the only AK variant I want, and best of all, its made by those clever Israelies.

The kind I like is the ones in .223, with wooden pistol grips and handguards, and with a bi-pod and carrying handle.

I know where to get the aftermarket materials to do that, and it's crossing my mind to turn these 2 rifles that direction. I too admire the 70's Galil look. You have good taste in my book, sir!

geologist: I know, I know, but you know that feeling? That feeling when you score BIG TIME? It doens't come around too often, but man, I'm feeling guuuud tonight. Where's the beer? It's celebration time! Range report forth comming after hangover; LOL.

Corpus: I hate you.

Yeah, I hate me too right now a little bit. For so many years I've watched other dudes score and said to my self: "Lord, when's it gonna' be my time!?" Well, today was the day. I'm happy as hell, but it's also weird being on the other side of the equation for a change. It's love/hate. I just need to remember to soak it up. It probably won't ever happen again.

curtton: I'm in Texas, so I'm not an authority on Nevada Gun Laws, but I do know that they have open carry. I remember filling up at a gas station some years back in a dusty nondescript area of Nevada, and some grandmother type was talking on a pay phone with a .44 on her hip in a leather holster. LOL. Suffices to say, it's pretty good there.

Ok, I've been rapidly acquainting myself with the particulars, and history of the Galil Rifle System. It seems that the version that I bought is the AR (Assault Rifle) variant. I like this variant very much, but since I purchased 2 of them, I would like to turn one of them into the ARM (Assault Rifle/Light Machine Gun) variation (See Below).

The Difference between the 2 rifles is only a wooden block, split fore-stock, Bi-Pod, and Carry Handle. They both use the same length barrel. I am currently scouting out a good place to buy these three parts, but if any of you guys already know of a good source, I would be much obliged if you would share the information with me. Thanks in advance.

P.S. It's supposed to be a wire cutter on the front of the bi-pod, but it was an even better Beer Bottle Opener from what I have read so-far; LOL. I have to have one.

at one time (15-20 years ago) Galils were considered the best military rifle in the world

They are certainly the pinnacle of the AK series....and the good ones have all the lovely yiddish on the side...

Showing off again Klunk?:D

The Israelis are masters in stealing other people's ideas and developing them into better weapon systems. All their home grown small arms, AFVs and jet fighters have this same unique character.

applicable maxim: "A good artist borrows; A great artist steals!"

The Israelis do this because, historically speaking, they need it "right" AND they need it "right now!" Good on 'em!

P.S. I found a source. God, I'm about to spend some more cash. It's not going to be a deal once I'm done with this project, but, I just can't help myself. The power of Awesomeness compels me! Wife's gonna' be pissed. LOL.
