What would be the most accurate rifle out of the box for $4000.oo base but no scope or rings included. Can a person buy a custom job for that in a higer velocity flatter shooter that a .308? Would a 7mm mag, a 300 win mag, or
.257 wby mag be flatter shooting?

I believe that Sako chambers a 6mmPPC? Not too sure is they still do?
Now Savage chambers a 6mmBR f class rig. Either of these would be the most accurate rifle you could purchase over the counter so to speak.

For about $4000.00 you can get a custom built that will hands down out perform any factory rifle, and in almost any caliber.
Of the calibers you list the 300 win mag would be the best for long range, there are others that exceed that as well.
You do not mention what distance or type of shooting you require this rifle for.
For target use 6BR or PPC is great, but useless as a hunter caliber.
Velocity is only part of the equation, predictable trajectory is another part, barrel life also enters into the picture for some.

More specific usage info would make suggestions easier to make.

accurate for what?

Do you wanna shoot 100 yards and shoot bug holes or are you into reaching out from 800-1000 and punching bullseyes ?
You,ll get different answers for different yardages. I shoot a 6PPC at shorter ranges and it's just stupid accurate, i've never seen anything close to it.
I shoot a 6 BR out to 1000 quite well but i'm giving up some to the 6.5x284 guys on a windy day, calmer days i'm fine.
But like A.T.R. says for that money you can build something really decent.
Savage has a nice "F-Class" Factory rifle out that comes in 6BR and 6.5x284 for $1100 ish you,ll just need to add mounts and a glass ontop.

Hey A.T.R. he said straight out of a box..... For $4000 would you give him a box to take it out of ?? laff.

"...a custom built..." To your exact specifications. As in lock, stock and barrel. However, as mentioned, what you plan on doing with it matters. Before you open your wallet, you should read a whole bunch about cartridges and their ballistics.

Sounds like you should crawl before trying to sprint. Get out to the range and start shooting.

On October 12 the Ontario Rifle Association is holding the Fall Palma Match (800, 900 and 1000 yards) at Camp Borden (near Barrie). If you or anyone else on this board wants to come and try some longe range shooting, this is your chance.

I can lend you a good F class 308 rifle and supply the match ammo for the day.

PM me if interested.

$4000 is a good chunk of cash for a rifles, you should do some research before decision, I just finish building a match rifle this weekend, and 260rem would be the magic for me, how ever for you or other, it would be different, so do some reading first before spending...

Have a look at H-S Precision inc rifles.

For that

kind of money a Custom Build is the ONLY way to go. All those other fandangled high priced rifles like HS, Cooper, Kimber etc are just SEMI customs.

Rempel, Leeper, Guntech, ATR Rick, to mention a few are the fellows who will, can, and would build you a gun that would outshoot the above mentioned rifles.

The wait is worth every penny.

I should go to Wholesale tomorrow, and see if they still have that one with the A5 instock, I might just take it again!

you should come over and pick it up tomorrow and shoot it, let me know how it does, save the target, I got some round loaded up, around 24 round.

THat 10FCP McMillan A5 is probably one of the best bang for the buck in the precision rifle category.

YET, I know, I was very supprise how tight the chamber was with the one I got from wholesales and sport, it was 2.803" OAL with 168grain BTHP, I miss that rifles, it was a bad move...
