Nice work Obiwan! That is the TAPCO, polymer stock tube for their SKS, Mini-14/30, Ruger 10/22 line if I'm not mistaken. Will the final product be aluminum or polymer?

final product will be polymer with a steel timing piece. These will be made out of modified tapco tubes designed for the ak. They are cut and angled to fit vz58 receiver perfectly and will have a steel insert in the top that will time them the same way as the factory folders.

Roger that; will the straight, optics compatible, version of the TAPCO tube be made available as an option? Thanks for taking the time to delve off into this, it may be a real godsend to us guys waiting on the receiver blocks for the aluminum tubes. Also, how much will we give you for one? (Ballpark price works for me. I just need to know how much I'm going to have to hide on the credit card/deposit withdrawal for a money order from "ma'ma!" LOL.)

not sure on price looking at $70 or so complete depending on export hassles.
I doubt I will be making a straight line plastic version. The straight line stock will most likely have to be a seperate adapter and extension tube.

Obiwan, not to take anything from your efforts, because they are highly commendable, but I'm just not digging that collapsed angle on the butt-stock. Might you re-consider the straightened profile TAPCO as a platform? I don't mean to come off as contrary to genuine effort here, but that just doesn't look right in my eyes. Please, please, please take this as constructive criticism here.

I agree it's rather ugly it looks just like the ak's with the tapco stock. Unfortunately a straight line stock on the vz58 makes iron sights unuseable, while this stock I feel has the best comfort level(so does everyone else who has had the grace to handle it so far)of any of the stocks availble for the 58 and works perfectly with irons. I and a few others are working on a straight line adapter for use with optics, but there is a large market for this stock as is, and the initial investment and final product costs are low. The tapco ak stock does not easily lend itself to a straight line and the sks/10-22/mini-14 stocks would require a seperate adapter rather than a one piece such as this, which would put the total cost at almost equal to the superior threaded extension tube adapter.

Righto, but the extension tube adapter is between 45 and 56 dollars, so at $70 your design is already more expensive. What your design has going for it is that it's available today, not tomorrow. I, personally would be willing to pay your price, and even slightly more, for something that worked, AND looked good...today; simply because I--like many others--am sick of waiting on the alternative. Keep this in mind, please.

Also

I would be interested in a straight line design also - no drop at the heel so it can be used with optics. The infratek one seems to have been made out of unobtainium for about a year. A new straight line design would be popular.

It has to be functional, if you want aesthetics you are in the wrong forum. Red rifles are ugly, obnoxious, and work. If you want something to look good go to that poser Black Rifle Forum (just don't expect it to function):nest:

$70 includes the extension tube and buttstock which run between $25 and $60

Very true Obiwan; I was figuring upon most guys already having a butt-stock, and tube assembly on hand (I sometimes forget that M4 stocks are not as common as rain in Canada, as they are in the States).

Now, Clobbersauras; getting a little bit big for our britches are we? I'm fully aware that Obiwan may not want to fool with a straight stock, but in-so-far as wanting one, or even putting one on, well, that's up to each individual man. You don't get to make that call for other Vz owners. It's their gun, and they can do what they darn well please with it. Besides, many of us don't use iron sights with the Vz. I don't use the irons with it. I use an AIMPOINT, therefore, I am not interested in a stock designed for irons; savvy? If you want to talk about functionality, then the folder or fixed that comes with the rifle works, and there is no real need to do an M4 stock, but since a lot of people just want to; well, you get the picture. I want an M-4, but I don't like that look, and if that's all that available, then I'll just stick with my folder until something else comes along. I think others feel the same, and some don't, but to each his own. The short story is: "I got a whole bag of ""Shhhh"" right here with your name on it!"

Now back to Obiwan; ever thought about just welding an ACE M-4 Receiver Block to an angled piece of steel and drill out the center to fit the mounting screw for the Vz folder? It might be cheaper on the production side, and higher on the profit side; 2 pieces, weld, drill, thread, done. Well, just food for thought. Good luck, and thanks for the effort you've put in so-far.
