Got my .50AE bullets from the States

Well, I finally got my .50cal bullets. Here's the time frame.

August 5th applied for import permit.
August 11th received import permit and sent to Mike.
August 13th Mike sent in export permits.
August 15th Mike received a note from the State Dept saying he needed a letter from me saying the bullets are for personal and target use.
August 17th the State Dept approved the export permit.
Mike was out of town until Sept 22nd.
Sept 23rd Mike shipped the bullets to me.
Sept 30 bullets arrived at my door.
Total cost of 2000 350grain .50 bullets shipped from the States to my door was: $584.11.
Cost for 1000 primers - $42.00
Cost for 1000 bullets - $292.06
Cost for powder for 1000 bullets - $124.41
Total cost for 1000 Desert Eagle .50AE bullets - $458.47
I didn't include .50AE cases so that's .46 cents per round. .50AE cases can be had for around .40 to .50 each.

I purchased 200 .50AE rounds at the beginning of the year for $585 shipped to my door. That was $2.93 per round. Reloading .50AE makes quite a difference.
Here's a pic of some of the bullets. I threw in a 9mm round for comparison.

I just finished making up 30 rounds. I used 28.5 grains of powder to start, and increased the load by .5grains until I got to 31grains. I'll chronograph them this Saturday at PSA. Once I've got the right load I'll make up a whole bunch. I might have to do an IPSC match sometime just for sh!ts & giggles.:D

Just showed my daughter....she has always had a thing for DE's.....said "I will hunt him down, it's just not fair!"
Told her to get a job....she does, 911 dispatcher....needs to get second job if she wants a toy like that!

Yep, I'm not sure how many loading the brass will last for, but I'm hoping it's several. I can't wait to head down to the States and shoot in the bowling pin competition. :ar15:Apparently, the DE turns them to dust instead of knocking them over.:eek:
 
I just have a spear dealer in burlington order them in for me than I go down and pick them up or I order them from midway and have the sent to US address. Ihave never had an issue at the border

That is seriously illegal! If you get caught you will be banned from the States. All you have to do is go to the EXCOL web site and apply for an import permit, send it to your dealer in burlington and have him apply for an export permit. You really need to do it the right way.

i disagree i personally went into the cbsa branch and asked and I also claim the at the booth. I was also concerned about a permit and was told (by the branch supervisor) that it only applied to gun parts and was only necessary for commercial imports not for personal use.
 
I reload with the Speer 350gr HP with the nickel they last around 8 times. The brass ones so far 12 times. The 50AE have a thicker case then any other cal (ex: 44 magnum)

It's not the Canadian side that's the problem so much. It's the US side. The Canadian border has much more relaxed rules when it comes to importing bullets and ammo, as long as you pay GST.:rolleyes: The US side will NOT allow you to export ammo, bullets, powder, primers, and parts etc without the proper permits. You HAVE been breaking US law not Canadian law. You have to conform to BOTH sides laws. The Americans do make spot checks while you are sitting in the line up waiting to cross the Canadian border.
 
I'm still scratching my head over this one......why would one go through all that trouble when you could use hardcast bullets, tailored to your gun/barrel, for a fraction of the cost. As in other gas operated semis, a properly tempered and well fitted cast bullet will cause no problems, wear the barrel less, be just as accurate......i don't get it, i don't get it...ooops, i just banged my head into the wall, I don't get it.
