Marstar has these in their New Items list:

Anyone have any thoughts on whether these would be better / worse than the Tapco equivalent? All else being equal, I believe it's easier to get one from Marstar (than importing the Tapco from US).

I'm not really looking for a detachable mag, just want to replace the existing SKS mag with something more tacticool, but will continue to load using stripper clips.

I have a removable mag on one of my SKS's, but it's a 5 round that sits pretty much flush with the stock. That's why I bought it, so that I could cradle the stock better when shooting. Shoving another five rounds off a stripper clip into the mag is much faster than removing the mag and inserting another loaded up with five rounds. That's especially true of the arrangement they have with the SKS, as it was not designed for a removable mag (this is not an SKS-D mag).

The one pictured seems pointless to me - there's something about 5/10, 5/20 and even 5/30 mags that strikes me as useless, and the "opposite of cool".

Compared photo with John Masen mag and that does appear to be what these are. Unfortunately I was only able to find negative reviews of the Masen SKS mag.

looks like a john mason mag , ask calum cos he is the expert on duck-bill mag .:D:D:D

Hehehe. :D

There is no nice way to put it...john mason mags suck ass. :puke:

I know so many people including myself that end up with stovepipes, random ejecting of extra rounds etc etc. Also I could not fit more then 4 rounds in my two.

Not to mention one needs quite a bit of dexterity to hold the bolt open while hitting the mag release in order to get these mags to detach.

Buy an SKS D, or enjoy the original SKS mag.

...most Duckbills for the standard SKS are known to feed "sixty percent of the time, every time!" :D For the ultimate in reliability be sure to use "Lesters ammunition !!" :p Duckbills mags love'em!

Funny, I had steel duckbill mags back when I had a "Wannabe AK" SKS, and I don't recall ever having a feeding problem with them. They were thirty-some-odd round mags (33, pinned to 5, I seem to recall), but I don't remember what make they were. Ugly, in retrospect, but they worked...

i had better luck with the 5rd zytel mag , cant vouch for durability cos i went back to original soon after buying one .

In my opinion the D is just as much garbage with its own issues...I say keep the factory integral magazine on your standard SKS...if you want it to look "cool", buy an AK or VZ or other 30 round magazine. Take a hacksaw to the top end, cutting off the lips and upper portion of the mag. Remove the spring and follower. Slide this open end of the butchered mag over the integral mag body and fasten in place with rivets or whatever. As long as we are restricted to 5 round mags for non-restricted firearms there is no point whatsoever in getting a D or the "higher" capacity removable mags.
