I am looking to buy a bear rug for a xmas present. The bigger the better. I am thinking $200-$300, don't know if thats enough. Does anyone know who would sell them at a reasonable price. Thanks

I bought a mounted black bear skin/rug off of kijiji, it was also posted on usedottawa

They are out there, but depending on size and quality, $200-300 might not be enough...

Cheers
Jay

Considering the cost to get them done $200 -$300 would only get you something old and ratty from a second hand store.

Most bear rugs run $800-$2500 and you have to supply the bear! They are out there and you may find one good luck.

You could of course get this one from Cabela's:

that's a lot of money for a rug. I always thought just hanging it dry will do the job. Maybe I should think of something else to gift

5'6 size bear. Would you say its a meduim size? Or more to the bigger side?

That all depends on the region your hunting, in some places in BC that's a baby, in others it's a good bear.

Just this spring, my son's bear was 5'6" and tanned only (no head no feet) was $175
The bear in my avatar was 6' and a full rug is going to cost me $1000, and well worth every cent!

For me, it's a "not bad" bear.

There are a bunch of qualifications-

Can you hunt bears every year?

Will you?

Is this your "first" bear?

Is this your "only " bear?

Does it have some unique colour?

Most important- Is this a big bear for your area?

I've killed a number of 6 ft and 6.5 ft bears...I've got some tanned, but I am waiting for a perfect fur 7 fter, before I get a real rug mount made...

I got a tag this year planning to get my first ever bear, just did not end up making the time to go for the hunt in Ontario. Now I have no choice but hope to purchase one at a reseasonable price for a gift.

That looks like a momma bear and 3 cubs...

That is legal in Alaska where you are allowed to shoot cubs.

Not sure where the pics are from. Other provinces may allow cub shooitng.

Anyway, there is one small momma and 3 real small cubs in that pic.:)

The Winnipeg Fur Exchange might be able to help you...but not for $300.
