Is there a need for more Cdn made AR parts?

I'm happy with either type of build; the end result is strong enough forged or billet. Billet may retain its dimensions a bit better because of less residual stress, but it hardly matters on an AR platform.

Looking forward to my AT-15 lower in the early new year.

Agree, agree, and agreed. :)

And your link is WAY better. Interesting reading, how did I miss that thread?

I could see buying a billet lower if Milspec forged recievers were unavailable, but they are, and at half the price.

While I have no interest you may well have the market for custom recievers cornered in Canada as shown by 16 pages of posts.

Yes there will be 2 actual lower versions.
1 that is the standard mil type lower with the open trigger gard that has assorted different pin in place bows, like this sample

the other option is the "enhanced " trigger gard lower shown in other parts of the thread.

We can mark the firecontrol (safety) with simple "Safe" and "Fire" as well as a number of other options. The plan is to mark both sides around the safety for ambi use, but again this could be an option.
The zombie thing is not everyones bag

OK, thank you for that information. I am learning here.
I am not really up on the AR Platform.

How is the "enhanced" trigger guard better than the open
design in your standard receiver?

I think it can't be done with forged or cast lowers, but I may be wrong.

a) it's cooler.
b) it's slightly more rigid == better accuracy with a target-quality upper
c) putting the standard trigger guard on is a pain - this takes the pain away.
d) no gap between the guard and the grip with a standard grip.

Downside: you can't flip the guard down for mittens. So if you plan to shoot with mittens, you need a standard guard.

I would not say it is better, just different.
Looking at some forgings I have here, I can not see how they could make the integral trigger gard being as a forging is poured into a 2 pc mold that is then split to get the part out.

My preference is the trigger gard being part of the lower, thinking it may be stronger than the trigger bows that are held in with 2 small pins.

It really boils down to personal preference I think and whether you shoot with mittens on, being an old whussy I don't shoot in minus 35 any longer.

Rick,

EMT for deposit has been sent! :) How long do we have to decide about engraving, special additions to serial numbers, etc...? I'd possibly be interested in having the CGN logo or the Greek Molon Labe engraved, but would like to see final artwork before deciding if you know what I mean?

If they are interested in the CGN logo, I will work on it - the beaver is a complicated artwork, it may not look good. it needs to work out.

Caliber is dictated by the upper so it doesn't have to be on the lower. As I was shown earlier tonight some companies do have a caliber on there lowers, but it isn't required.
